It works fine for transferring my several year videos from my Sony miniDV DCR-HC85 camcorder to my computer (window XP) (using Sony software for window Vista, downloading form Sony website, need original software disk during installing)so far.

I did not know there were two kinds of firewire ports. It would have been great if they stated that it only works in a specific firewire port.
