GoPro HD Hero2 Outdoor Edition

Inexpensive. Rugged construction. Good quality video. Compact. Waterproof to 197 feet

Limited battery life. Archaic control system. Fixed focal length lens. No GPS

The GoPro HD Hero2 is a rugged HD video camera that can take a beating and go deep underwater. It includes a number of different mounting tools so that you can affix it to a helmet, skateboard, or anything else you can imagine.

GoPro HD Hero2 review: GoPro HD Hero2

I've had a bit of a love-hate relationship with the GoPro HD Hero that we've used during the recording of the Car Tech Live podcast for the last year or so. On the one hand, the Hero takes phenomenal wide-angle video, is ridiculously durable thanks to...

The GoPro HD Hero2 boasts improved optics, a few new video- and still-photo-shooting modes, and backward compatibility with current HD Hero accessories. Most importantly, its interface has been overhauled and is now much easier to view and understand.

As improved as it is, the Hero2's interface can still be a bit confusing for the first-time user.

The GoPro HD Hero2 is easily the best GoPro camera yet, with the ruggedness and quality that we've come to expect and a new user-friendly interface.

GoPro HD Hero2Camcorder Review

The GoPro HD Hero2 is part of a new class of camcorders that is still searching for a definitive name. Some call them “hands-free” or “mountable” camcorders, while others prefer the terms “wearable” or “adventure-cams”. The Hero2 is all of those...

When the original GoPro was introduced into the market it immediately filled a niche for a great many people who would probably have not gotten into video or whose budgets simply didn't allow for it. As I used the first GoPro HERO to come out, all I...

This, in no way, detracts from the impressive quality of the GoPro HD HERO2. This new camera version is no slight improvement. It is a major upgrade in all ways and areas highlighted by its new, faster and larger sensor and its wonderful new menu which...

BlurFix for GoPro Hero/Hero2 Review

I'm really loving the GoPro2 HD Hero2; it's wide angle 170° FOV lens and small size make it so versatile and handy, and it nicely compliments my “normal” camera gear. The waterproof housing supplied with it means it's a robust little unit, and knowing...

Easy DIY installation ; The ability to use filters allows you to be more creative (go buy yourself a CP filter, and you'll never see clouds the same again :) ) ; For me, it actually allows me to hold the camera bit better ; Easily converted for...

Covers front activity light ; Added weight and bulk ; Vignetting in some modes

GoPro LCD BackPac for HD Hero and HD Hero2 Review

In my review of the GoPro HD Hero2 (see related links), I mentioned that there was no viewfinder included with the the standard package. Now while many people using this unit for extreme sports may not find that this is an issue, my usage means I want...

Small and light ; Allows you to frame you video/photos ; Allows you to playback your video/photos

Additional weight and bulk ; Covers the rear activity LCD ; Cryptic codes or video mode ; Cannot be stacked with a Battery BacPac

GoPro HD HERO2 Outdoor Edition POV Camera Review

I've reviewed the Drift HD and the Swann Freestyle HD action cameras (see related links), and while I haven't been able to give you any extreme sports footage, hopefully the reviews have been useful to those considering a POV camera. The GoPro range of...

Small and flexible ; Lots of options for video and still resolution ; Clear and bright pictures ; Good low light sensitivity (given the size of the sensor) ; Lots of accessories from both GoPro and third party vendors ; Good user forum support

No tripod mount on camera or casing ; More expensive than other offerings ; No viewfinder supplied as standard making it a bit hit and miss framing your pictures or video
