GoPro Hero4 Silver review

As simple or sophisticated as you want it to be, GoPro's Hero4 Silver will impress pros and hobbyists alike with outstanding video and photo quality that far exceeds its humble “action cam” label.

GoPro deserves credit for breathing life back into the stagnant camcorder business. While traditional camcorders have lost their luster, action cameras have gained popularity. Competitors from Sony to Polaroid have challenged GoPro for this turf, but...

GoPro Hero4 Silver review

For the past couple generations, GoPro's Black model has been the one to buy because like the majority of top-of-the-line models, it had the best features and best performance and was markedly better than the step-down model, the Silver.

The GoPro Hero4 Silver produces some great video for an action cam. Its abundant resolution and frame-rate options will satisfy beginners and experienced shooters. The built-in touchscreen makes previewing and reviewing and changing settings a breeze.

It still needs a housing to be waterproof. Battery redesign means you can't use your old batteries and battery life will still be too short for some. No option for in-camera digital image stabilization.

The GoPro Hero4 Silver takes everything we liked about the Hero3+ Black -- especially the solid video quality -- and adds in some handy new features including a touchscreen, making it one of the best little action cameras around.

GoPro Hero4 Silver

Underneath the surface, the GoPro's Hero4 Silver is basically the Hero3+ Black Edition—and that's a good thing. Its top-notch performance and new touch-screen display justify this action cam's $400 price tag.

Excellent video quality. Capable of 4K recording. Versatile shooting modes. Touch-screen LCD. Improved menu system.

Expensive. Short battery life.

Conclusions The Hero4 Silver is excellent all around, and should fulfill every criterion if you're in the market for an action camera. The touch screen makes it easier to frame your shots and review your footage, but as I mentioned earlier, it's a...

GoPro Hero4 Silver Review: A Superior Action Cam

The Hero4 Silver is a very capable action camera well worth the price for the quality, usability and availability of great accessories. It also stands out among all the action cameras we've tested for its large, bright LCD touch screen — which makes it...

Sharp images with fine color detail ; Bright 1.7-inch touchscreen LCD ; Easy control over Wi-Fi and mobile app ; Access to huge selection of mounts and cases

Video and photos can look a tad hazy ; Case muffles audio

The Hero4 Silver achieves the best balance of quality, price and usability among action cameras, while supporting oodles of accessories.

GoPro Hero4 Black and Silver Review: Still the Best Action Cams

You know how people call every kind of facial tissue "Kleenex," even if it's technically from another brand? These days, GoPro is practically synonymous with action cameras. I can't use any other action cam without someone asking me, "Is that a GoPro?"...

GoPro Hero4 Silver Standard Edition review

The first ever GoPro camera to feature a built-in touchscreen display, the GoPro Hero 4 Silver Edition is a tiny, lightweight camera that can still shoot 4K UltraHD video. It shoots great video in daylight and has a versatile set of features too, but...
