JVC HD Everio GZ-VX815 Review

In tech the general trend for products is to get smaller and smaller. The same holds true for camcorders: Long gone are the days when you had to hoist a large VHS camcorder onto your shoulder. As the parts get smaller yet more powerful, so does the...

High-definition 1080/60p video recording ; 12-megapixel JPEG still images ; Compact, slim profile ; Wi-Fi with remote monitoring

Short battery life ; Menu navigation sometimes quirky ; Zoom control speed jumpy

There are some slight blemishes, but the image quality and features of this highly compact camcorder more than make up for them.

The JVC GZ-VX815 is an HD camcorder with Wi-Fi and a compact design. Its online connectivity makes it a great option for livestreaming footage, but its video quality is not as crisp as that of other camcorders we reviewed. It is small enough to fit in...

The JVC GZ-VX815 has built-in Wi-Fi to allow you to livestream your footage

A small camcorder with big camcorder quality

Excellent image quality ; Extensive WiFi features ; Stylish, compact chassis

Manual lens cover closing ; Almost no discrete control buttons ; Manual settings in full menu only

JVC's bizarre animation effects are available, too, and you can also decorate people's faces with graphical glasses, stamp your footage with a graphic, add an animated handwriting effect, or superimpose the date and time.

JVC Everio GZ-VX815 review

You already have a hi-def video recorder on your phone already, so why do you need a camcorder? Because you'll end up with better footage, for one thing. If size has put you off using a camcorder, the JVC's compact form might win you over.

Lots of creative features, Smart image stabilisation

Interlaced footage not ideal for monitors, Some compacts beat it for video quality

Excellent interlaced footage for TV but the absence of 1080p@50fps is a blow
