JVC GR-DZ7 Digital Camcorder

The GR-DZ7 has a simple, ergonomic design that makes it a pleasure to hold, and a 1/3.6-inch CCD sensor offering 1,230,000 pixels of resolution.

Great low-light video capture Sharp still images• Comfortable design

Shaky images with zoom Difficult-to-use navigation pad

JVC GR-DZ7U

CCDType: Single CCD, Video Recording Format: DV Tape

Sharp-looking video and 1.9-megapixel effective still-image capture with built-in auto flash. USB 2.0 (Hi-Speed) connectivity.

No hot shoe or headlight. Busy menu structure and membrane control panel are cumbersome.

At just under $1,000, the JVC GR-DZ7U is a compact, comfortable-to-hold digital camcorder that takes very sharp videos and decent still images (with adjustable flash). But its menus and controls can be difficult to navigate.

Unreliable

Don't waste your time on this junk. Mine blew up just out of warranty with a tape loading problem. Repairing is almost as expensive as purchasing a new model. I've checked other JVC problems on the net; broken CCDs, reset problems, etc. Stay away from...

Great Camera - USB Video 2.0 Video Transfer is Awesome!

Great Camera - USB Video 2.0 Video Transfer is Awesome!

I love this camera and the fact that you can *finally* transfer DV to a computer using USB 2.0 instead of Firewire. I simply plugged in the camera to my computer's USB 2.0 port, opened MS Movie Maker (latest version) and imported the video! Simple!...

Product Specifications

The JVC GR-DZ7 Mini DV camcorder features chic, jewel-like styling in a size that will handily fit into a purse. Inside its compact dimensions it is equipped with a two mega-pixel CCD image sensor for high quality video and digital stills. As the demand for high-speed data transfer continues to grow, PC connectivity is becoming increasingly more important. To ensure widespread PC connectivity for this new camcorder at a time when PC makers are opting for USB versus an IEEE 1394 interface, GR-DZ7 comes with a USB port, which supports USB Video Class. So DV signal data can be transferred to PC via the commonly used USB 2.0 High-Speed port, with no need to worry about the IEEE1394 (I-Link) terminal. In order to fully utilize the two mega-pixel CCD's picture performance, the GR-DZ7 uses JVC's Megabrid engine that separately processes video and still signals, providing optimal processing for each. This results in high sensitivity and a high signal-to-noise ratio for moving pictures as well as clear, high resolution still images. This new engine works in conjunction with JVC's proven Super High-Band Processor that restores the high-band components of the luminance signal to ensure a crisp, clear picture. This new camcorder also features a Super Hi-Rez lens specifically matched for two mega-pixel CCD performance. The newly developed nine-group 11-element structured optics, which includes a glass-molded aspherical lens, offers high-precision 10X optical zoom and 300X digital zoom for true picture quality. The camcorder also offers JVC's 3D noise reduction, proven picture improvement technology used in VCRs that's now available in JVC camcorders. This circuitry reduces video noise by up to 30 percent, especially when shooting in low light. The GR-DZ7 adheres to JVC's commitment to provide a "one box solution" by including with software for burning a copy of recorded MiniDV footage to a DVD via a computer. Also featured is an auto flash that makes it easier and more convenient to take still images in low light or nighttime situations. Choose from either AUTO, On or Off in either standard or red-eye reduction mode. To make shooting easy in a wide range of situations, the 2.5-inch Clear LCD monitor suppresses diffusion of internal light to deliver a brighter, clearer image, and also reduces reflection and glare from external light so images are clearly visible even when shooting outdoors in bright sunlight.
