Panasonic AG-DVC30

A surprising number of professional features for the price; solid, compact design; responsive performance; Infrared mode; excellent video quality.

Controls are more consumer-oriented than the feature set; Movie-Like mode inferior to true progressive imaging; no built-in XLR ports.

A compact model with a wealth of features for its price, the Panasonic AG-DVC30 offers one of the best values in a three-chip MiniDV camera.

Panasonic AG-DVC30 Camcorder Review

Panasonic's new $2,595 (MSRP) AG-DVC30 is really many cameras in one. This model jumps into the arena with other ? inch prosumer cameras such as the popular GL-2 and the PDX10. Panasonic has not competed in this arena for a while and judging from the...

Panasonic DVC-30 review

'With the DVC-30, Panasonic has done a good job of cramming the DVX100\x92s main features into a smaller case \x96 and adding a few of its own. However, it hasn\x92t achieved scaling the body size down to that of a consumer-camcorder \x96 a feat...

"Dated but brilliantly powerful and versatile camera"

I use mine now only for home use and for making pretty corporate video's for youtube and training days. If you only want to play.. get a toy... and preferrably, one that has a HDD or SD/flash type card input.

Great versatility with the hand strap for both forward and rearward recording. Quick recording and pausing. Also has the ability to add an extra Night mode light (IR) or light for darker surrounds

Zoom only operates slowly when recording but lightning fast when using as viewer or in pause mode. The biggest downside is the lack of accessories avail now. 12 monts ago there was HEAPS! but now.. there is only batteries.

"Great camera with a lot of professional level features."

If I had to spend it again, I'd still buy it! Over a Sony PDR100? You bet. Over a Canon GL2? Definitely. Over a DVX100? Well, OK, you got me. I'd have to spend more for one of those. Features for dollar, I have not been disappointed with the camera,...

Really nice on-screen image, low camera noise when running tape, optical image stabilization works pretty well when not mounted on a tripod; night vision has several levels that take some familiarization with; time stamp if you want it; customizable ze

Low light level auto-focus is poor. You have to select slow shutter speed (highest in this range is 1/30 second) and then manually focus, which is OK if you're mounted on a tripod, but if not, God help you get that image in focus. Would have preferred n

Great Little 3-Chip DV-Camcorder

I have been producing video since the days of three-tube cameras, and prefer a camcorder to sit on my shoulder. The AG-DVC30 is a great little 3-chip DV camcorder, and I like it so much, I own two. One is equiped with a Panasonic AG-MYA30G xlr adapter,...

Robust build, solid handle, large flip-out monitor, pro quality controls

1. Size. I wish the body were larger ; 2. I wish it had a dedicated zoom lever ; 3. The built-in microphone placement is awful, and fairly useless

Product Specifications

Total mobility? Easy carrying? Or advanced audio specs? With the multi-style handle, the choice is yours. Designed with the professional in mind, the AG-DVC30 introduces a new detachable handle that adds versatility by letting you use this compact DV camera three different ways. With handle detached, this super-compact 3CCD camera fits easily into a bag or pack for highest mobility. With handle in place, the AG-DVC30 is easy to carry and easy to use, even when shooting at difficult angles. With the optional XLR adapter mounted on the handle, the AG-DVC30 has outstanding audio specs, plus the ability to add two external phantom mics or line inputs with "glow in the dark" level controls. With features like time/date superimposition and the Zero Lux IR mode - the world's first infrared nighttime shooting mode (B&W) in a 3CCD camera-recorder - the AG-DVC30 is ideal for professional monitoring and surveillance use. Add a slow shutter mode for high-sensitivity color recording, Cine-Like gamma curve, and 30-fps frame recording that gives images a film-like appearance, and you've got ultra-flexible performance to meet a host of professional needs. The AG-DVC30 also features the newly developed Leica Dicomar 16x optical zoom lens, which provides superb image rendering in shots ranging from wide angle all the way to telephoto. The motorized zoom is silky smooth and can go from wide to tele in as fast as 1 second (for Sports applications) or as slow as 100 seconds (for dramatic work).
