Panasonic AG-DVC30 review: Panasonic AG-DVC30

Intro Panasonic's AG-DVC30 represents the company's entry into what you could call the prosumer-lite camcorder category. These cameras are a step down from higher-priced, entry-level pro cameras with 1/3-inch CCDs, notable examples of which include...

A surprising number of professional features for the price; solid, compact design; responsive performance; Infrared mode; excellent video quality.

Controls are more consumer-oriented than the feature set; Movie-Like mode inferior to true progressive imaging; no built-in XLR ports.

A compact model with a wealth of features for its price, the Panasonic AG-DVC30 offers one of the best values in a three-chip MiniDV camera.

Panasonic AG-DVC30 Camcorder Review

Panasonic's new $2,595 (MSRP) AG-DVC30 is really many cameras in one. This model jumps into the arena with other ? inch prosumer cameras such as the popular GL-2 and the PDX10. Panasonic has not competed in this arena for a while and judging from the...

Panasonic DVC-30 review

With the DVC-30, Panasonic has done a good job of cramming the DVX100's main features into a smaller case – and adding a few of its own. However, it hasn't achieved scaling the body size down to that of a consumer-camcorder – a feat achieved by Sony...

wonder boy!

This camera is a versatile, productive tool. I have been blessed to have shot with GL1s, GL2s, all flavors of XL1s, and most of Panasonics "prosumer" cameras, and even the wonderful VX1000. The AG-DVC30P holds a special place anywhere among these ...

Nice feature set, good price point. 3.5" LCD

Not for shooting 16x9. Separate rings for zoom and focus would be nice

I love this little camera! Highly recommended.

I have used this camera on three shoots so far and it continues to surprise and impress me.

1. Great price. 2. Very good picture quality. 3. Excellent low light capabilities. 4. Excellent auto-focus. 5. Excellent zoom range and control. 6. Small and light. 7. Small and compact.

1. Ok, internal mic. Low audio output. 2. No true 16x9 mode. 16x9 squeeze mode reduces quality.

AG DVC30

I really like the dvc30.

The size and great look of this camera makes it a good choice. I paid about $1,400 for mine. Excellent video, good audio. The super night mode really works to shoot B/W in near absolute dark.

None really for the money.

Product Specifications

Total mobility? Easy carrying? Or advanced audio specs? With the multi-style handle, the choice is yours. Designed with the professional in mind, the AG-DVC30 introduces a new detachable handle that adds versatility by letting you use this compact DV camera three different ways. With handle detached, this super-compact 3CCD camera fits easily into a bag or pack for highest mobility. With handle in place, the AG-DVC30 is easy to carry and easy to use, even when shooting at difficult angles. With the optional XLR adapter mounted on the handle, the AG-DVC30 has outstanding audio specs, plus the ability to add two external phantom mics or line inputs with "glow in the dark" level controls. With features like time/date superimposition and the Zero Lux IR mode - the world's first infrared nighttime shooting mode (B&W) in a 3CCD camera-recorder - the AG-DVC30 is ideal for professional monitoring and surveillance use. Add a slow shutter mode for high-sensitivity color recording, Cine-Like gamma curve, and 30-fps frame recording that gives images a film-like appearance, and you've got ultra-flexible performance to meet a host of professional needs. The AG-DVC30 also features the newly developed Leica Dicomar 16x optical zoom lens, which provides superb image rendering in shots ranging from wide angle all the way to telephoto. The motorized zoom is silky smooth and can go from wide to tele in as fast as 1 second (for Sports applications) or as slow as 100 seconds (for dramatic work).
