Panasonic HDC-SD900 review

Panasonic has slashed the entry price of DIY 3D by expanding its range of 3D compatible camcorders and making the conversion lens an optional £280 accessory. You can now step up to 3D via the £899 HDC-SD900, the most affordable new member of the...

Fabulous HD image quality in both AVCHD and 1080/50p modes, comprehensive feature specification, excellent Hybrid Optical Image Stabilization system, bright 3.5-inch touchscreen monitor, 3D ready

Optional 3D conversion lens is expensive at £280, 3D depth can seem a little restricted, and you can’t zoom

The HDC-SD900 is an affordable 3MOS camcorder capable of stunning HD image quality. While its 1080/50p shooting mode will have pro-users salivating, the rest of us will not be left wanting by its AVCHD performance. Throw in some of the best IA...

A Full HD camcorder brimming with manual controls and 14.2MP stills

Superior movie quality ; Digital Cinema mode ; Tactile and large 3.5-inch touchscreen LCD ; Range of manual and advanced features ; Quality of 14.2MP stills

Viewfinder too small/unnecessary ; Best audio requires external mic ; Practical 3D shooting still some way off

If you have the money, and also the need, for this level of Full HD camcorder then the Panasonic HDC-SD900 has to be near the top of your shopping list. The SD900 is as essential as camcorders can get.

Panasonic HDC-SD900 review

The Panasonic HDC-SD900 is a tremendous 1080p camcorder that's ideal for advanced users, marrying great picture quality with excellent manual controls. Its 3D capability is an added bonus, but you'll need to pay extra for the compatible lens.

Stunning picture quality ; Excellent manual controls ; Large, touch-sensitive screen ; Viewfinder ; 1080/50p shooting mode

3D lens costs extra ; User interface could do with an overhaul

Whether or not you bother with its 3D capability, the HDC-SD900 is an excellent camcorder, thanks to its great manual controls and smashing image quality. A question mark hangs over the wider compatibility of 1080/50p recordings and, for owners of...

Panasonic HDC-SD900 review

The Panasonic HDC-SD800 impressed us with its superb image quality. The HDC-SD900 has the same sensor and lens, but adds a high-resolution screen, some additional controls and an electronic viewfinder.

Amazing video quality and easy to use manual controls. The best high-end camcorder we've seen.

The SD900 is part of the next crop of camcorders that focus on image quality. There's also a set of fun features thrown in for good measure too, with an optional 3D lens and touchscreen.

The SD900 will be available from the end of February for AU$1499. The HS900, the higher-end model, will be available in March for AU$2099.

The Panasonic HDC-SD900 is aimed discerning consumer who is looking for quality over style. At 66mm x 72mm x 146mm (W/H/D), the HDC-SD900 is not a pocket friendly camera, but it makes up for it with features. We got about 120 minutes out of the battery...

The Panasonic HDC-SD900 is a brilliant camcorder. The customization on this camera is fantastic, allowing for manual ISO, Shutter speed and white balance, as well as manual focus bought to you by the smooth and responsive focus ring on the lens

The ergonomics of the HDC-SD900 aren’t the best – holding for long periods of time often gave a cramp in the wrist or arm, however this can be alleviated with a tripod

At a shade under £1000, this camera is not to be purchased on a whim, however we feel that the multitude of features and manual control settings really make this camcorder shine. If you are a budding filmmaker or want something more from your home...

Panasonic HDC-SD900 camcorder

Review The HDC-SD900 was the first of Panasonic's expanded 3D camcorder range to arrive in the UK. It sits below the HDC-TM900 and HDC-HS900 (which offer 32GB memory and 220GB HDD respectively), but shares the same functionality, recording Full HD and...

Overall, the HDC-SD900 is great value for money. I would rate its 2D picture quality as outstanding for the price and the feature spread ticks all the right boxes. As a hobbyist shooter it’s well above average, and for prosumers (needing 1080/50p) it...

Superb is not the right word

The Panasonic HDC-SD 900 is a wonderful piece of Kit, the quality of the picture cannot be faulted, I expect this is due mainly to the Leica lens and the true HD format that this Camcorder produces, the optical zoom is only 12X but you can use up to...

The1080/50p picture quality is awesome even when uploaded to Utube. Basic shooting is relatively easy. The optical image stabiliser icons are a little confusing but when this is turned on it is exceptionally good. Microphone susceptible to wind noise,...
