Panasonic PV-DV200 Camcorder Review - Panasonic MiniDV Camcorders

The PV-DV200 is a lower end model of Panasonic's MiniDV line. It is effectively the PV-DV100, with additional features that make it much more attractive. It has an MSRP of $999, which is inexpensive for a MiniDV format camcorder. With the standard...

PV-DV200D no frills camcorder

The Panasonic PV-DV200D was purchased because of previous experience with the brand, and the ranking the camcorder got in the consumer reports magazine. There was also a $100 rebate at the time, which made it an excellent bargain. The MiniDV tape media...

My first DV Camera, goes to the web

This is the first video camera I personally shelled out money for and my first DV camera I have ever used (except for the really expensive 3CCD chip system a well-off friend has).

Point-and-shoot ease

Point-and-shoot limitations. Battery life not good.

Excellent Video Camera, not so good for stills

I purchased this camera hoping to use it for both video and stills. I haven't seen a rating, but I believe it is equal to about a .5 million mega pixel digital still camera. This doesn't produce very good stills, especially in low light. I've purchased...

Light weight, good video picture, Fire Wire port

Poor still picture quality.

Panasonic PV-DV200 Digital Camcorder - A great Digital Palm Corder for the Beginner or Expert

I purchased the Panasonic PV-DV200 some 9 months ago, and I've been extremely pleased with its performance thus far.

Excellent Video Quality, a multitude of features. Light weight and relatively easy to use

Poor low-light color capture. Somewhat cryptic menu system.

Great digital camcorder for the price

For me this camcorder was a good value when comparing to other brands in it's price range. This is a solid digital camera for the money.

Good value compared to other manufacturers models with similar features

awkward menu button placement, battery life

Good digital camcorder

I bought this camcorder before the birth of my first child this year. I planned to buy a cheap 8mm but traded up after seeing the difference in picture quality and feeling the difference in size.

Picture quality, value for money

Product Specifications

Panasonic's PV-DV200 is the perfect choice for great home videos without a lot of fuss. 2.5-inch LCD Viewscreen makes recording a snap by allowing you to see your recordings as you make them. It also makes recording events from difficult angles much simpler. Plus, you can watch your masterpiece after you've recorded it. Panasonic IEEE 1394 "FireWire" Interface allows you to connect your Panasonic digital camcorder to compatible personal computers or digital editing devices with industry standard IEEE 1394 interfaces for advanced editing and viewing. Also, you can connect to compatible digital camcorders to produce duplicate copies of your personal recordings without loss of quality. 18x Hi-Definition Zoom is a powerful optical zoom that acts like a telescope to get you closer to the action. It's great for close-ups, too. Also, it operates at seven different zoom speeds, so you can go from wide angle to full telephoto in 2 to 22 seconds; a great feature for your cinematic flexibility. And through the use of digital technology, the zoom ratio can be increased ton an amazing 300: 1. After the highest optical zoom setting is reached, the digital zoom automatically takes over, magnifying the image by blowing up pixels to give you an incredibly close shot. Digital Image Stabilization helps to reduce image shake and jitter, delivering a more stable picture. Black & White Viewfinder allows precision aiming of the camcorder when lighting conditions or shooting positions reduce the LCD capabilities. Full Range Auto Focus System makes recording simple. Don't worry about the focus...the camcorder does it for you! Built-in Monitor Speaker allows you to listen to your video on playback. PCM Digital Stereo Recording and Playback provides wider range and better clarity in recording. i.Link (IEEE 1394) Terminal provides incredibly high-speed (up to 400 Mbps) transfer of full motion video from the digital camcorder to a computer or another i.LINK capable camcorder. And, since there is no need to convert digital data into analog, there is no loss of image quality. It is the ideal vehicle for transmitting digital camcorder data. RS232 Terminal allows you to connect the digital camcorder to a computer for rapid image downloads. Lithium-ion Battery provides longer, more reliable performance than NiCad batteries, with better cold weather performance and greater resistance to developing a charge memory.
