Panasonic PV-DV701 Camcorder Review - Panasonic MiniDV Camcorders

The PV-DV701 is part of Panasonic's middle range MiniDV camcorder line. With an MSRP of $1099.95, it isn't terrifically expensive as camcorders go, and it does have several features that make it a notch or two nicer than the low-end Panasonic cameras....

Test Bench: Panasonic PV-DV701 Mini DV Camcorder

The Panasonic PV-DV701 is a sleek camcorder with the features hobbyists need to make high-quality video productions. While it has a number of flashy features, like IR 0 Lux recording and still image capture, it also has a number of manual controls that...

Multiple low-light recording methods ; Manual controls ; Headphone and mike jacks

Touchy zoom control ; No manual white balance

With a suggested retail price of $1,000, this camcorder is an excellent buy. Its image quality was quite good and feature set was large. For folks who are just beginning, or for people who want to move to the next level, this camcorder will fit the bill

Lightweight yet robust, easy to operate, comfortable with a lot of high-end features

SD card housing poor, battery in-place blocks power and S-Video ports

Panasonic PV-DV701 Camcorder

We did our best to research a full featured Camcorder at a reasonable price. Consumer Reports reviews (Nov. 2001) led us to Panasonic's PV-DV_01 series and the PV-DV701 had the features for which we were looking.

Lots of features, light weight

Poor repair history, poor warranty, picture grainy in low light
