Capture crisp video for your widescreen TV without breaking the bank.

Panasonic PV-GS39

Panasonic's PV-GS39 is an inexpensive, entry-level camcorder with a long reach. Its 30X optical zoom brings even distant subjects into close view, though you'll want a tripod to steady the camera. The PV-GS39 offers relatively good video quality across...

Superb zoom reach; excellent battery life; simple controls; true wide-screen recording.

Poor still quality; nonintuitive icons for manual settings; grainy footage.

With its extreme zoom range and its low price, the Panasonic PV-GS39 is a good choice for shooting distant subjects.

Panasonic PV-GS39 Camcorder Review

The new Panasonic PV-GS39 (MSRP $349), which was unveiled at CES less than a month ago, aims to uphold the high standards that Panasonic set forth in their 2005 PV-GS series. As a 1 chip camcorder standing smack in the middle between the new GS19 and...

As our first full review of 2006, we're glad to see that the feature-heavy traditions of lower-end MiniDV Panasonics have not been lost. Of course, we always like to see improvements, but the PV-GS35 was a big favorite of ours last year, as was the...

Panasonic PV-GS39

The PV-GS39 offers a native 16:9 1/6" CCD with a 800K gross pixel count (290K effective pixels in 4:3 and 380K effective pixels in 16:9). The F values for the iris are the same as the PV-GS31, which this is replacing– f/1.8 to 3.9 – but the focal...

"Very good video . . . easy to use"

I purchased this camera because of its price, and was amazed at the ease of use as well as the camera's capability to take still shots while filming. Another plus ( I think ) is the ability to take a still shot directly from a video. The stills tend to...

Fits easily in hand - Bright pictures - "Snapshot" capability

No Editing Software - Requires a firewire card - Short battery life.

"Ok for some things, but not a classic"

This isn't the most terrible budget camcorder that you can get your hands on, but the no-frills approach is definitely that: No frills.

Lightweight, side-loading, great zoom, built in light, low price

Ridiculous power system, no firewire/USB cables, no software, no microphone jack, no accessory shoe
