Panasonic SDR-S10 First Impressions Camcorder Review - Panasonic Flash Memory Camcorders

Panasonic's SDR-S10. It's small (a mere 0.40 lbs.), it's black, it's "water resistant," and it's cheap, with an MSRP of just $399. It's also drop-protected from a height of four feet - so feel free to knock it off your table every once in a while -...

SDR-S10 Compact SD Digital Palmcorder Camcorder

It may be a strange case of gleeful ignorance, but dropping an electronic device that can withstand the punishment can be very satisfying. A few digital still cameras have been designed to be overly durable, but camcorders have been a different...

Traditionally, camcorders are sensitive and delicate. Too, they've become so small that the traditional Velcro hand strap has been replaced by the same flimsy tether as used on lithe digital cameras, as is the case with the SDR-S10 Compact SD Digital...

Panasonic SDR-S10

The Panasonic SDR-S10 excels in toughness with its waterproof and shockproof housing. A modest amount of video capability is packed into the tiny frame that is suited for outdoor movies when you won't want to lug around a lot of extra weight.

If you are looking for a video camera that you can carry with you without it taking up a lot of space, and you aren't concerned about the quality, then this is a good camera

Panasonic SDR-S10 Camcorder

A dinky, water-resistant, SD card camcorder for a very attractive price. But how does it perform?

The form factor of the S10 is also a little strange, and we had trouble getting used to it. The idea appears to be to hold the camcorder in the palm of your hand like a Dictaphone, using your thumb to control the zoom rocker and forefinger to operate...

Panasonic SDR-S10 review

Forget home movies, the Panasonic S10 is a weather- and drop-proof camcorder that's happier shooting in the surf, halfway up a mountain or in torrential rain. It's small, sexy and simple to use, although you'll need to avoid low light if don't want...

Tiny, tasteful design ; Water-resistant and dust-proof ; Drop-proof to 1.2m ; Good-sized lens and screen ; Handy manual features

Dodgy image quality, especially in the dark ; Awkward menu buttons ; No video light ; Minuscule still photos

Image quality is disappointing, especially in low light, but for outdoor movies when hiking, biking, sailing and skiing -- or simply lounging on the beach -- there isn't much to rival it. However, that might change later this year with the launch of...

It's a mini adventure with the S10. A go anywhere, shoot anything cam that won't break the bank and delivers well for its size

Panasonic SDR-S10

The words 'small' and 'light' are frequently attributed to Panasonic's various camcorders, but with the S10 the company has gone one better and come up with what it claims to be the world's smallest SD camcorder.

Easy to use, Good colour reproduction, Decent audio for the price

Basic features, Picture fizz in fast-moving shots

If it's quality you're after, pound-for-pound a mini DV cam will give you better footage, more features and longer recording time. But for sheer carry-anywhere convenience, the S10 offers a neat solution with acceptable image quality that will be at...

A great little camcorder! A bad format.

I purchased this camcorder on ebay. The price for the features is great, and with only a 4GB SDHC memory card, I can record 1 hour and 40 minutes of video, or take 28,360 pictures. The quality for video and photos is great, very sharp. The zoom, which...

Small, compact size. Great video and picture quality. Pretty good zoom. Records to SD or SDHC cards. Attractive. Easy to use. Ok bundled software

Records to .mod files, which are compatible to almost nothing. Moving around with the controls is a little awkward. You have to plug in the charger as well as the USB cord to connect your camcorder to the computer

Hardware, amazingly good! Software, amazingly bad!

The codec is entirely proprietary. their software must be installed to use the video camera as a video camera. The software requires that the user be an administrator. This makes this unusable in many places. Since the codec is unavailable without the...

It performs fabulously, is reliable and functional. Simple enough to use, this is a great camera! Panasonic should be proud of the team that designed this product

The format, *.mod and the mystery proprietary codec lower the usability and convenience of this camera. The requirements for this camera's software to function, limit it. You may only use the software on one computer

Product Specifications

Panasonic SDR-S10 is stylish yet tough, being also ideal for active video shooting. The S10 is small enough to slip in a pocket or bag. Cool enough to take everywhere you go. This is one stylish video camera you'll never want to be without. The S10 is designed to resist damage even if dropped from a height of up to 1.2 meters. Panasonic fortified the outer body casing, making it thicker to improve rigidity and strength. Inside, Panasonic provided an intermediate resin chassis to cushion and protect the main circuit board and lens. This solid construction makes the S10 the Panasonic's toughest camera yet. You can freely adjust the angle of the LCD monitor for comfortable viewing no matter how you're holding the camera. The SUB REC button on the side makes it easy to shoot when you're holding the camera low. The buttons are laid out simply and logically for easy one-hand operation. A water-resistant design lets you use this camera when it's rainy or snowy outside, or in places where you might get a little wet. The camera is even designed so you can hold and operate it when your hand is wet. This is a camera you can use in places - like alongside a pool or outside a ski lodge - where you never dared take a video camera before. The Pure Color Engine converts the CCD output signal from a complementary color signal into an RGB signal at an early stage and extracts the low-frequency luminance component from the RGB signal. This innovative engine also achieves truly superb color reproduction for high-zoomed pictures.
