Panasonic SDR-S100 SD Camcorder

CCDType: Three CCD, Video Recording Format: Secure Digital

Quite small and portable. Design is good for left-handers and right-handers. SD cards make file transfers easy. Image stabilization.

Very expensive. Low-light video quality should be better. Color was a bit oversaturated

The Panasonic SDR-S100 SD Camcorder has an innovative feature set and a great look, but it's too expensive.

Panasonic SDR-S100 Camcorder Review

Hail the new pint-sized player in town, the Panasonic SDR-S100. Recording MPEG2 video to a 2GB SD card (included), this little puppy promises to pack a wallop. Not only does it claim the title of first 3 CCD SD cam, but with a totally redesigned...

SDR-S100 and Mac

Very small

It does not work with a Mac.

Best of the small

Except in low light where my GS400 is better, the images from this camera are very good to excellent. With the included software, or better yet Womble Video Wizard, I can turn out a very nice family DVD with ease. The MPEG-2 files produced are DVD...

Excellent color and clarity in MPEG-2 video - good battery life

Almost too small - expensive - poor stills

Panasonic SDR-S100

Well, I bought this camera so that I'd have something small to take with me hiking and shoot some video. I am very pleased with the camera overall. It met my needs.

Portable, good picture quality in decent light, easy to access and edit your video clips right away

Even with OIS it is still shakey, low light quality isn't stellar, 2GB Max on SD cards

Panasonic SDR-S100

This is my first DV cam, I choose S100 because of it's video quality much better as compare to the recent JVC's HDD cam MG50. It's 3CCD really give more detail video with less noise, especially in daytime. For low light situation it still needs...

Handy, easy to use, daylight picture is good, 1.5sec power on and shot

Low light video is dark, insufficient memory, 4G will be better, WB response is slow, many restrictions in bundle software in managing video files

Panasonic SDR-S100

Cool design although just a bit too large for one handed operation. Stupidly not set up for Mac users, only PC. It would earn 2 more rating points if Mac software/interface was included.

Simple controls, good in-screen data, built in flash

firing button is in a difficult position for one hand operation. Not for Mac users

Product Specifications

Get true, crisp color images with this 3CCD Camera System. The SDR-S100, with its 3CCD Camera System, reproduces color in great fidelity by using a separate CCD for reds, greens and blues. It's the same 3CCD technology used in Panasonic professional broadcast equipment, resulting in 540 lines of breathtaking resolution. You can count on Panasonic 3CCD Digital Camcorders to give you colors that are as rich and vibrant as your life. Quality pictures start with a quality Leica Dicomar Lens. World-renowned lens-maker LEICA has developed an exquisite, 12-element, multi-coated lens that helps add a high-level of detail and subtlety to your creations. With refinements like a 2-stage neutral density filter for aperture independent adjustment, you'll appreciate the remarkably crisp, true-to-life color that is a hallmark of Leica Dicomar optics. Capture still pictures with outstanding quality. Quad-Density Pixel Distribution Technology makes it possible to capture still pictures with amazing Megapixel quality. The tiny 2.5-micron intervals between pixels are shifted by one-half pitch both vertically and horizontally, which distributes them on the CCD with four times the density of previous systems. It enables model SDR-S100 to capture still pictures with incredible detail at up to 3.1 Megapixels. The Optical Image Stabilizer helps you obtain clear, beautiful pictures by compensating for any hand movement that occurs as you shoot video. Gyrosensors detect the amount and direction of movement, while a linear motor adjusts the lenses as needed to compensate. You get clear, sharp images in situations where handshake is typically a problem, like wide-angle shots or high magnification levels of the zoom.
