Expert Review

The VDR-D100 is Panasonic's lowest priced DVD camcorder being sold this year. As a replacement to the VDR-M53, it will provide some much needed additions while, unfortunately, losing some of the features that distinguished the VDR-M53 from the...

Great Manual controls, -Priced for budget consumers looking for the DVD format, -Far better joystick interface in comparison to previous Panasonic models

No still features, -Dull video quality that struggled with heavy levels of noise, -Swapping out DVDs every 18 minutes with highest quality record mode, -Electronic rather than Optical Image Stabilization

Panasonic VDR-D100 Camcorder Review

The Panasonic VDR-D100 is the lowest-end DVD camcorder the company is offering this year. It lacks all the features that you typically miss in the entry-level models - a 2.5" rather than 2.7" LCD, and there is no still media card because the camcorder...

The VDR-D100 is just what you would expect from an entry-level model. It performs comparably to other camcorders in its price class, while lacking the features that make you want to go out and buy the better equipped sibling models. The VDR-D100 lacks...

Panasonic VDR-D100

The Panasonic VDR-D100 produced an unexceptional image at 3000 lux under our standardized conditions. It's what you'd expect from a camcorder of this caliber. Inside, the D100 has a 1/6" CCD producing 680K gross (340K effective) pixels. What it yields...

Panasonic VDR-D100

Panasonic's D100 has some modest specifications, sporting only standard 4:3 capture with no native widescreen recording. The D100 has a 1/6in CCD sensor with 400K effective pixels. It doesn't take still images, so if that feature is on your wish list,...

In anything other than good natural light, the D100 suffered obtrusive and persistent blotchy noise issues and compression artefacts. The Panasonic's automatic white balance frequently wandered into much warmer tones, occasionally resulting in...

Panasonic VDR-D100 review

The VDR-D100 is only a touch bigger and heavier than the DC19, but it feels bulkier in your hand.

This is the cheapest DVD camcorder in the group, but it doesn't have the immediate appeal of Canon's DC19.

SimplyDV Review: Panasonic VDR-D100E DVD Camcorder

It's a no frills, simple to use camcorder that will find favour with newbies looking for the convenience of DVD recording and clip management. 30x zoom is a bonus, as is general functionality.

The low price point inevitably leads to some compromise when shooting in low light. 4:3 "cinema" widescreen mode is a bit of a waste these days, and the 1000x digital zoom is superfluous.

It's a perfectly good camcorder for the complete beginner with a limited budget, no desire for complex features and the convenience of direct-to-DVD disc recording with no fuss.

Consumer review (newegg.com)

Impressive

This is a really nice camcorder, with almost everything the average shooter will want. The image stabilization is amazing and helps out ALOT especially when in zoom. The quality is decent even at the lowest setting, although its only 17 minutes per...

Small, light, long battery life, lcd, high pass audio filter (wind), compatible with dvd-r/w, 30x optical zoom, EIS

No night shot, alittle noisy in dark shots, highest quality recording is only 17 minutes per disc, no software for editing, loading times are a bit annoying with the disc at times as well as slightly buzzy occasionally when reading or writing to disc
