Review: Parrot's Jumping Sumo minidrone

With all the interest surrounding aerial drones of late, it might seem like a step backwards for Parrot to come out with a quirky two-wheeled vehicle that rolls around on the floor. But after spending some time with its new, spring-loaded minidrone, we...

The Jumping Sumo has a top speed of 7 km/h (4.5 mph), with a slider on the left of screen to control acceleration and braking. Steering, however, does get a little bit trickier. There are buttons for 90 and 180 degree turns when at a standstill, but to...

Parrot Jumping Sumo And Rolling Spider Review: Mini Bots Best For Drone Newcomers

Parrot is trying to expand the reach of its consumer drone products with two new gadgets now available to buy, the Jumping Sumo and the Rolling Spider

These toys are great fun for those looking for a novel gadget to get beginners and those on a tight budget interested in drones, but they’re definitely not going to win over the serious enthusiast, and they offer up too many compromises to please...

Hands-on at CES 2014: Parrot's smartphone controlled toy that can leap and crawl on the ground

We’ve been waiting to see if Parrot was capable of producing a smartphone controlled toy that works on the ground and the Sumo has all the ingredients to be a lot of fun. If Parrot can get the pricing right, there will be plenty of people both young...

Parrot's MiniDrone Jumping Sumo is a lot of leaping, rolling, spinning fun

The word "drone" at this point probably conjures up images of unmanned aerial vehicles conducting military airstrikes or multirotor aircraft for aerial photography or delivering packages.

The Parrot MiniDrone Jumping Sumo is a fun, two-wheeled rover with a camera that streams a first-person view for piloting through your environment with a smartphone or tablet. The camera can also capture low-res photos and video

Video capture is limited to VGA resolution and requires a Micro-USB thumb drive for storage. Battery life is "up to" 20 minutes, and the battery is charged in the Sumo and takes about 90 minutes to top off. Wi-Fi connection can be temperamental

The Parrot MiniDrone Jumping Sumo gives you a ground-level look at your environment as it spins and jumps at your command.

Sumos Can Jump! : Parrot Jumping Sumo MiniDrones

Continuing the MiniDrones are coming theme, this next product has more of a tank feel as it travels around and over obstacles.

Whenever the subject of Sumo comes up, my thoughts immediately go towards the full-contact wrestling sport so popular in Japan. Two very large and over-weight men try to push each other off a combat mat. Just looking at these man-mountain combatants...

A lot of fun

I've had my Jumping Sumo for about 2 weeks now and it's been a lot of fun. I was up and running in minutes on my iPhone 5s running IOS 8.02. I've sent it out on “missions” to see what the dog is barking at, is my son still playing Xbox late at night...

I was up and running in minutes. Controls are very intuitive and easy to adjust to your preference. FPV is excellent and compared to other FPV devices they have the focus and angle dead on.

Overall I am very pleased with my Sumo but it appears to me like the app needs some work. It does have disconnects and app freezing but I expect them to be resolved rather quickly.

Lots of fun and is well made

My 12-year old nephew loves this Sumo. It jumps and goes pretty fast, and is well designed. The battery life is decent, not super long, as it's often the case with this kind of toys. Of course, jumps and flips make it drain faster, but it's still good.

This thing is great!

I've been seriously addicted to this thing since I got it for Christmas. It's a blast to play, with the very cool mechanics and all kinds of awesome tricks. It works great indoors or on concrete outside, but I've tried it on the grass and it didn't...

I got this for my birthday last month. It's fun to play with. The jumping feature is interesting, but I don't use it much anymore, as it drains the battery pretty quickly. I like the camera feature, it's fun to take pictures of the house from different...
