Ricoh 500SE

On January 25, 2008, Ricoh introduced the 8.1 megapixel Ricoh 500SE Digital Camera with integrated barcode scanning capabilities to the US market. Designed for barcode-based workflows that require high-quality images, the 500SE, also known as the Ricoh...

8-megapixel camera with barcode capability, Integrated WiFi and Bluetooth, Optional laser scanner, Can survive 3.3-foot drops and 14 degree temperature, IP67 rating (waterproof to 3.3 feet), Works via Bluetooth with GPS receiver, Data-Imaging and...

Fairly expensive, Only QVGA movies

There aren't a ton of fancy features, but what there is is very useful. Examples are an anti-skew recording mode, a text mode that optimizes the image and saves in TIFF format, digital anti-blur, interval time exposure from 30 seconds to 3 hours,...

Owners Opinion: Ricoh Caplio 500G (Les Lammers, 4 Sep 07)

I bought this for the 28mm FOV and it has more flexibility than other water resistant P&S cameras. The optical VF is not perfect but it is better than not having one. The IQ, IMHO, is very good and the larger size makes it easy to 'find the buttons'....

Owners Opinion: Ricoh Caplio 500G (Eb Just, 8 May 07)

I bought this camera for its rugged, waterproof construction to take on an expedition to Antarctica in December 06. I was very glad I did as it allowed me to take photos on bouncing, splashing Zodiacs without concern. We also had some wet and windy...

Ricoh Caplio 500SE

This is one of those 'everything but the kitchen sink' cameras, featuring a wide-angle 3x optical zoom lens, rugged waterproof body and Bluetooth or Wi-Fi image transfer.

Good wide-angle lens, Handy rubberised body

Too much picture noise, Very expensive, Limited waterproofing

An interesting all-in-one offering, but the price is bordering on the ridiculous

Ever feel the need for some outdoors photography, but find yourself concerned that your regular digital camera may not be up to the task? Then Ricoh's...

Rugged design, waterproof, GPS functionality, Bluetooth and wireless

Noise and colour reproduction not quite up to scratch, chunky design

While it has its share of flaws, the combination of rugged, waterproof design with GPS capabilities and an 8 megapixel sensor makes the Ricoh Caplio 500SE an attractive proposition for outdoors photographers.

Ricoh Caplio 500G Wide digital camera review

Six months after it was first announced, Ricoh has finally released the 500G in the UK. Ricoh has a lineage of tough cameras and the 500G is the latest and an update of the very similar 400G. Key spec on this model is a very nice 28-85mm, 3x optical...

Build, simple to use, nice wide-angle lens, image quality at lower ISOs, quite probably the perfect family or beach camera, ideal builder’s snapper

Big and clunky, horrible to look at, image noise at higher ISOs, price, horrible to look at … and did I say it looked horrible

Tougher than rhino hide, waterproof and dustproof, the 500G is aimed those who work in a tough environment, it also takes nice pictures too
