Sanyo Xacti HD1000

Sanyo's HD offering imbues a classic cam with quality video performance.

Very good video quality ; Well-placed, easy to use controls ; Ultralight, pistol-grip design ; Sharp 4-MP still photos

Difficult to hold steady ; Some tearing in video

Even with a skimpy software package that includes Nero 7 Essentials and Ulead MovieFactory 5.0 SE, the HD1000 is an excellent buy. We love the portability and video quality, and even the option to shoot stills while recording video. (The cam’s 4-MP...

Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD1000

Sanyo developed a new high-speed image processing engine to handle the high capacity demands of Full HD data. This engine utilizes Sanyo's proprietary codec, enabling Full HD compatibility with the AVC/H.264 format, and makes it possible to do with one...

Incorporating the latest high-definition CMOS sensor, the Sanyo Xacti HD1000 camcorder captures full 1080i high-definition video (1920x1080) at 60 frames-per-second. Designed to record the rich and vibrant colors of real life, the HD1000 also captures...

Camcorder Review: Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD1000 Camcorder

Hands down, the HD 1000 gets its highest marks for coolness. Whip it out at the next family reunion and envy will fill the air. This camera is genuinely stylish; add in its light weight and small size and it becomes a very useful little tool

Looks great Multiple outputs provide flexibility Truly ergonomic

Awkward manual focus / exposure controls Noisy image in low light Onboard mic slightly tinny Video out only on docking station

Good HD camera for home users and hobbyists. Professionals will want more control.

Object of Desire: Sanyo Xacti HD1000

World's smallest and lightest 1080i HD camcorder is great for video podcasting to your site.

A lot of photographers we know are having their assistants record their photo shoots and then posting the video onto their site or blog as a fun, short documentary. With the simple SD card format of the HD1000, getting these clips out of the camcorder...

HD1000: good in low light but still...

So, I have bought this camcorder last year, and I was soo excited about it. Everything worked just fine until the sad truth blasted me. My first 1080i movie was playing quite well on the camera but on the PC? No. I have to convert each 1080 movie from...

Full HD, 8MP interpolated stills, 48Khz Audio, 480p and 720p in 60fps as well as 30fps, macro to 1cm, good flash range

1080i looks choppy in anything i play it with, colours are not that acurate, AVCHD takes a lot of space even in VGA 30fps (1,3 GB for 1 hour), quite noisy videos and stills after passing the ISO400 line, vivid option is not vivid at all

Great All Around

I teach martial arts part time and will be using this camera to record belt test, demo, tournaments and various occassion. There will be times where I would post such videos on the schools website and youtube. The size of this camera is also great...

HD Quality ; Compact ; Easy Access Controls ; All in one docking station ; Design is a head turner and very comfortable to hold ; Easy on camera menu, very customizable

Lacking a light to assist in video mode for low light video capture ; Not good if you are left handed ; Most AVCHD editing software requires dual core 2.4Ghz processor or higher. So old PC's are at a disadvantage

Sanyo HD-1000 is awesome and compact for HD camcorder

I wanted a camcorder I could bring around and capture some candid videos of the kiddies. With my other camcorders (Mini-DV, 8mm), it felt like I was going to shoot a production (camcorder, tapes, bag, etc.). I purchased the Sanyo Xacti C6 for the...

Compact (feels like a pistol in your hands) ; Video is wondeful in outdoor and middle lighting ; Has slave shoe option for external light ; Great lens ; Great snapshot pictures, but not worthy of a sole camera alternative ; Records on SD format

Grainy in low-light ; Filming in full 1080 you still get a lot of lag and delay on playback ; In your hands, it can get a little slippery (make sure you secure around the wrist)

Excellent design, easy to use, packed with features.

These cameras are highly under-rated, but they are truly amazing. I have had several much more expensive cameras from Canon, Panasonic and JVC (XL1, HV20, DVC30, DVX and HD100) I have sold them all and exclusively use the Xacti Line. I started with the...

All the features you need. Plus external audio input, hot shoe four mounting lights and mics. 720p footage is excellent for web and HDTV viewing. Reads light and color very well. Wide angle lens adapter improves POV and usability

LCD screen is down-grade from the HD1's amazing LED screen ; Footage must be transcoded with Freeware app MPEG Streamclip for use with Mac - iMovie and Final Cut Express and Pro

Amazing little Camera... not tiny on features!

I ordered this camera and it arrived just 2 days before leaving for my cruise. So I hurried up to learn the basic features (which took almost no time at all) and I was off and running... this was my first camcorder in a few years so I seemed to have...

Great zoom, Stunning video, GREAT Still shots and so easy to use

If I have to put a con... the only one that I can think of is the joy stick is a little small

Simply awesome!

This camera is great! Its compact size allows me to take it anywhere. The video quality is superb. Sound is crisp and clear. It even has external mic jack and a headphone jack which is unusual for a camera of this size. It will be an even better buy...

Size, image quality, long battery life

Full HD 1080i footage does not work with Mac iMovie 08

Product Specifications

The compact, hand-fitting Xacti HD1000 measures just 90 x 112.6 x 54.5 mm and weighs 268 g (body only). In line with the entire Xacti stable of digital movie cameras, it's shaped for comfortable one-handed shooting on the fly. So don't head out without it. Stunning, full high-definition movies on the Xacti HD1000 are recorded in the high-compression MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format. Your movie files are smaller and easier to work with, but offer image quality that will take your breath away when played back on widescreen HDTVs. The newly designed CMOS sensor captures significantly more light than previous image sensors, enabling much improved performance in low light. So flip open the monitor and unleash the movie-maker within. The Xacti HD1000 captures the moment forever with high-sensitivity 4-megapixel still images at up to ISO 3200. But just because you want to take a still image doesn't mean you have to stop recording a movie - you can do both at the same time with a simple button press. Meanwhile, features such as the Face Chaser and Full Auto modes make the HD1000 as satisfying for beginners to use as it is for more experienced photographers. The supplied docking cradle opens up a host of connection possibilities. By connecting the unit via USB to an external hard disk, you can back up your movies and stills without having to access a PC. Along with USB, the cradle offers HDMI and component video connections, for high-quality playback of movies on a connected HDTV. You can also use the cradle when recording to a DVD or HD recorder, or when connecting the unit to a PC or printer.
