Sharp VL-SD20U Review

The Body of the Camera seems to be very sturdy and well put together. I especially like the positioning of the buttons on the hand grip portion, they fit my hand perfectly. I was a little less impressed with the buttons on the LCD Screen side of the...

Breaks Easily

Bought this camcorder in February 2000, at the time it was the second most expensive camera in the store at $799 and one of the few mini DV camcorders yet available. That was four years ago and I bought it because I was told that mini DV is the wave of...

Extremely easy to use! Anyone can use it with ease. Very light.

Screen scratches easily. No steady shot. No mount for a video camera light.

Sharp VL-SD20U everyone should own at least one.

All I can say about this Sharp little Digital Camcorder is Buy one! Just don't be sold on all the hype of the super small, JVC and Sony models, I have a JVC GR-DVM90, and a SONY DCR-IP7BT. In my opinion the video quality is relatively the same as the...

Not that much of a bargain.

I bought this camera a little over two years ago and was sucked into the fact that it was one of the least expensive digital camcorders on the market. I paid $700 paid at the time when most cameras were well over $1000.

Compact, inexpensive, excellent visibility for the LCD screen

Thin on features, stills recorded to the tape, heads dirty quickly, broke after 2 years.

Does not last

I bought this camera after seeing the reviews on, in particular that it was durable. I enjoyed doing videos with it. I used it to make many videos, editing them with different kind of software in my computer.

Nice size, but one important drawback

After spending a long time trying to decide on a new video camera, I bought the new Sharp SD20U thinking that it was perfect for my needs--under $1000, small size, good LCD. The controls are easy to use. It's lightweight, and the video quality seemed...

A perfect little camera...

Weighing only 1.2 pounds, and boasting a lovely 3-inch LCD screen/viewfinder, the Sharp VL-SD20 leaves me with not much to complain about, so first I will rave...

Sharp VL-SD20U - It Doesn't Have A Viewfinder!

The product description above probably says that this camcorder has a viewfinder. In fact it does not - only 3" LCD.

Excellent picture quality, rich set of features, compact, good value

Product Specifications

Sharp has taken its Digital Viewcam series a step further...or a step smaller. The VL-SD20U offers the same exceptional video and audio quality as other Digital ViewCam models, but in an amazingly compact size that fits in the palm of your hand. This LCD Digital Viewcam brings together the sterling quality of digital video production and the easy-to-use functionality. Sharp's LCD Digital Viewcams bring together the sterling quality of digital video production and the easy to use functionality of popular Viewcam series. Digital technology gives you high quality video with faithful color reproduction without blurring, smudging or noise. Images are more precise and stable. Digital information can be stored for longer periods of time and can be viewed more often without deterioration. In addition, PCM Digital Stereo Recording gives you advanced, DAT quality sound. The new backlight compensation adjusts only the dark parts of a shot to optimal brightness levels, and leaves the bright sections untouched, so they don't become glaringly washed out. The Digital Image Stabilization (DIS) circuit senses movement of the user holding the camera and helps to reduce image shake and jitter, delivering a more stable picture. All Viewcam view screens are coated with a special resin that reduces fingerprints. To clean view screen just use a clean, soft clot. Moreover the screen can rotate 270 degrees adding more convenience to the camcorder.
