Sony CCD-TR416 - Great 8mm Video Camera that Lacks Good Sound Quality

I have owned this video camera for over a year now, and am still very happy with it. I bought it at the reduced price of $250 (as it was a store model at Circuit City), so I really got a great deal since I have seen that the actual price is $449....

Great 8mm video quality, versatile, lightweight.

Sound quality isn't as good and slightly high price.

Great Camera for little money!

This particular model has a lot of options that will impress you without even seeing the video yet. The video speaks for it self with high quality and the still shot option; it leaves the entire family happy with the final result. This particular...

I bought a CCD TR517 this year (basic model) for less than $400.00. I took it to Alaska in really foul weather this year. Temperatures were under 0 degrees Fahrenheit. It held up beautifully & I have great video of that trip. For a truly affordable...

A must have

Four months ago my wife just gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Back then I regretted the day that I didn't buy a camcorder to capture that big event. So last month (May 2000), I bought the Sony Camcorder and now started to take video's of our son. With...

This Basic Model Is Packed With Features

For Sony's basic Handycam, this one sure has a ton of features and a very nice resulting picture. Though someone may rarely use all the features, it is nice to have the value for the buck.

Can There Be A Good Problem?

"Warning this EPINION is about all 8mm camcorders, not just Sony's model!"

Brings the styles if 8mm back.

With horrible consequences.

Easy to use Handycam

We've had this camera for a little over two years. The actual model number for the one I have is CCD-TR66, but it isn't listed (I imagine that it's because they have come up with newer, better ones since) and this one is the closest comparison to the...

small, very easy to use

Product Specifications

The CCD-TR416 camera features Sony's exclusive Extended Resolution System. Instead of the usual 240 lines of Horizontal Resolution delivered by VHS or VHS-C, 8mm XR provides up to 280 lines of resolution. New 18x Optical/180x Digital Zoom brings the action up close from far away. This Sony camcorder has the stamina to record up to 14 hours on one optional battery (NP-F950). Also included is Rechargeable InfoLithium Battery with AccuPower Meter System that continuously displays the amount of power remaining in minutes, in the viewfinder. With Sony's NightShot System you can capture video even when shooting in total darkness (0 lux) up to 10 feet away using the built-in infrared system. Add creativity to your movies with 8 Picture Effects, such as Slim, Stretch, Mosaic, Solarization, Black and White, Sepia, Neg. Art and Pastel. Control L (LANC) connects Sony VCR's and editing controllers for precise control and ease of use during editing. Sony also allows the user to display any of the camcorders preset titles in English, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Chinese. Sony's 6 Program AE modes will make all of the necessary settings to the shutter speed, aperture and focusing for a variety of indoor and outdoor situations. These AE modes consist of Portrait Mode, Sports Lesson Mode, Spotlight Mode, Beach and Ski Mode, Landscape Mode, and Sunset and Moon Mode. Optimum Record Control, when activated, will perform a short record and playback of the inserted videotape to analyze the tape and to check the condition of the video heads. 16: 9 Recording allows the user to record in a true "widescreen" aspect ratio. This will become even more important as consumer TVs adopt the widescreen format.
