Sony Handycam DCR-DVD305 review: Sony Handycam DCR-DVD305

There seems to be an abrupt disconnect in the middle of Sony's DVD Handycam line. On one side of the divide is the DCR-DVD305 and its lower-end siblings, with their puny 1-megapixel or lower-res sensors and inferior, plain-old Zeiss lenses. On the...

Generally fast autofocus and autoexposure; can finalize discs while on battery power.

Middling video quality; no windscreen filter for microphone; small LCD with impractical touch screen-based menu system.

There are better choices than the Sony Handycam DCR-DVD305, a so-so DVD camcorder.

Sony DCR-DVD305 Camcorder Review

They say the apple never drops far from the tree - and in the case of the Sony DCR-DVD305, the saying is particularly apt. This camcorder shares a body design with its step-down cousin, the DCR-DVD205, and its specs are virtually identical. In fact,...

The DCR-DVD305 ($700 MSRP) is the middle of the line DVD camcorder from Sony. That position might suffice in MiniDV camcorders, but DVD camcorders produce (for the time being) a lower image quality than MiniDV. Whereas a mid-line Sony or Canon MiniDV...

Sony DCR-DVD305

The Sony DCR-DVD305 comes a'calling with a 1/5.5" Advanced HAD (Hole Accumulation Diode) CCD, with 1.3 gross MP (690K effective pixels). This is the same size chip as the DCR-DVD205, the next model down, but that camcorder does not have the HAD...

Sony Handycam DCR-DVD305 DVD Digital Camcorder

1. The zoom on the camera could have been better. 2. Probably a Hard disk would have helped than a DVD. 3. The installation of the device drivers for USB is painful. The drivers could have been WHQL certified for easy installation. 4. The PC tools...

Small and efficient camera

Lack of a user friendly interface in camera screen and lack of a good zoom. The PC support tools provided are terrible

DCR-DVD 305 Great Camera - Bad for Mac

I use this camera for filming college football games. I am not a professional videographer. I am able to create a disc, and then mass copy it for sharing with others. For this, the camera is amazing. I then wanted to edit all the videos that I have...

Excellent video reproduction in wide screen. Clarity is very definite. Very easy to point and shoot. I added a telephoto and a wide angle lens and the videos are even better

No DV output, only USB. The video files it creates are .ts files and can't be read by Macs. The Picture Package software for PC is very weak
