The Sony Handycam DCR-DVD650 offers an all-in-one, on-the-go way to capture standard-def video and burn it to a DVD, but hard-disk-drive and flash-memory models are otherwise a better option.

For a first time camera, it is a bit difficult to get used to all the available features. However, with some experimentation, you are all set to go. I suggest using the memory chips as main meda storage. The 30 min disks are nice, but rarly used
only 30 mins of disk time. 16gb mem disks give error warning even though documentation says you can run them. And I run the sony made memory chip. Software that comes with it is a bit confusing at first

Easy to use great camera
Disk size is horrible. The whole point to a DVD camera is to record longer than 30 min (or 60 min 2 sided) disk. I went to a wedding as the videographer. It worked great and it was a quick start up, but I had to keep changing out the disks & charging

The 'Editor's take' has inaccurate info. The DVD650 records 2ch stereo only. You must step up to the DVD850 to get 5.1 surround audio
