Sony Handycam DCR-SR40 review:

Given their ease of use and the fact that they potentially eliminate the need for media, it's a wonder that hard-drive-based camcorders still haven't replaced DVD-based camcorders in the post-MiniDV world. After all, a camcorder the likes of Sony's...

Fast focus; 20X optical zoom lens.

No accessory shoe; heavily dependent on touch-screen interface; small LCD.

Sony's DCR-SR40 is a solid, midlevel, hard-drive-based option, though still-image buffs won't be impressed with this camcorder's submegapixel snapshots.

Sony DCR-SR40 Camcorder Review

Sony's new entry-level HDD camcorder, the DCR-SR40, made its debut this fall in a crowded market, with media, video standards, and manufacturers vying for consumers' attention. It's a market in flux, as HD video becomes an affordable option for the...

Sony Handycam Dcr-sr40

The Sony Handycam Dcr-sr40 is an easy to use, lightweight hard drive digital camcorder with 30 GB of storage that can record about seven hours of video. Video is output in a compressed MPEG2 format. The MPEG2 format results in decent, but not...

Picture purists should probably look into a hi-def Handycam alternative, but average users will find the Dcr-sr40 to be more than capable of handling all their video capturing needs

Fast focus ; 20x optical zoom lens

No accessory shoe ; Heavily dependent on touch-screen interface ; Small LCD

Overall, Sony's Handycam DCR-SR40 is a decent choice for an entry-level hard-drive-based camcorder. Serious hobbyists and still-image buffs will probably want to move up the line, but casual shooters, such as those who just want to document birthday...

Sony Handycam DCR-SR40 DCR-SR60 and DCR-SR80

Recommended but...BUY AT NEWEGG!!

Overall I'd say it's a quick and easy item to use but you can see from the cons that it's not perfect. Overall it's easy to use and provides a good picture and good sound, its not professional but better than most of us need for recording a piano...

Ergonomic grip, intuitive controls, easy mode allows for less clutter on camera, touch screen also allows for less clutter. Small size overall, touch screen works well with a sharp picture

Software that comes with it doesn't seem to be all that useful. Direct DVD burn function does not work yet. I'm sure it will given more time to research it but so far it's not quick and easy at all. Camera does not show up as camera device on computer...
