Sony Handycam DCR-SR45

By (cnet.com)

Compact, lightweight build ; stores video to 30GB hard drive or Memory Stick Pro Duo cards ; touch screen

Barely passable standard-definition video quality ; no optical image stabilization despite ultralong lens ; Windows-only software

The Sony Handycam DCR-SR45 has a good design and reasonable feature set for its price, but the video quality doesn't measure up to the rest of the package.

SONY's SR-45 delivers solid performance for a standard def video camera. No tapes to fuss with and plenty of time to shoot with a 30G hard drive. Excellent auto focus and easy controls for recording. The new SONY software is cool too.

not much considering what the camera costs.

Small size is great to travel with.

Bought in July for a trip I was taking in October. Didn't use on the trip, and the first use was Christmas morning. Ruined my Christmas morning, because after 10 minutes of use, the picture went blurry, and can't be fixed without sending to Sony.

"OK, but for a high pic quality, go to high def"

Nice fiatures, I like touch screen, it is light weight and easy to handle. Overall I agree with the reviewers.

Pic is grainy when you see it on TV even HD vs SP recording doesn't make much of a difference. Sometimes it has difficulty focusing. i.e. had a dog that ran closer to the camera then the kids I was filming and it went blurr.
