Sony Handycam DCR-SR45

With the popularity of posting low-resolution video to the Web showing no signs of waning, it's easy to see why the Sony Handycam DCR-SR45 exists. It's very easy to use, goes from off to recording in seconds, is small enough to throw in a bag and go,...

Compact, lightweight build; stores video to 30GB hard drive or Memory Stick Pro Duo cards; touch screen.

Barely passable standard-definition video quality; no optical image stabilization despite ultralong lens; Windows-only software.

The Sony Handycam DCR-SR45 has a good design and reasonable feature set for its price, but the video quality doesn't measure up to the rest of the package.

This is an excellent product.

I am a private investigator so I need a product that will give me both still photo's and video. Operates in various weather conditions and environments. The SR45 is light does a great job taking surveillance photo's and video.

Excellent video and still photo's. Easy to operate in all types of conditions

Battery life is not great. Make sure you carry at least two charged backups

You get what you paid for...

I bought a video camera to replace my old compact videocam using mini-tapes, I figured with a 30G memory this is well enough, with 3Mbps it thought it would be satisfying, but it isnt that impressive, the video quality is poor even on tripod. The worst...

Compact and very handy, a 30G hard drive is all you'll need

Video quality is not as clear and the Photo feature is really poor, my cell phone takes better shots

Easy to use

Great for casual use, some of the problems with image quality can be improved with suitable editing software. According to the handbook (shipped on disk) it's an NTSC camcorder, which is suprising since I purchased it in an area which uses mainly PAL....

Fairly easy to use, no tapes or disks to mess around with, lightweight and compact

Image quality mildly disappointing (but watchable), no viewfinder, LCD display can be hard to see in bright sunlight. need to turn off image stablizer when using tripod while recording someone making a presentation, no flash

No flash - no good pictures

Again..the only problem I have is with the night pictures..they are very dark.

I love the size of the camera...the fact that you can record and take still pictures

Im not pleased with my handycam. The pictures are not clear...especially night ones. They are too dark. Perhaps Im doing something wrong

Cool Feautres... Poor Video Quality

I bought this camera to shot some greenscreen footage for some video projects I wanted to do. Problem is, you can't hook it directly to the computer and use it as a webcam... so you have to shot the video, then connect it to the computer, download the...

Great Nightshot 0-lux camera ; Outrageous Zoom 2000x digital ; Easy to use, point and go

No direct video output to computer ; No Remote control ; Terrible artifacts from compression ; No User Default settings ; No printed manual, have to print the PDF file on CD ; Can't use as a webcam

Very nice camcorder, I love it!

Bottom line: Great camcorder for someone who doesn't need all the bells and whistles of some more expensive cameras. I'd recommend it to anyone who has never owned a camcorder, but wants easy features and current technology. I've used it on vacation...

Very easy to use, and easy to upload videos to computer. The touch-screen function is really neat. The quality of still shots , especially outdoors, is really good. Easy to pick up and record fairly quickly. Convenient size, and decent price

Very shaky when zoomed in, you'll need a tripod. Although the touch-screen feature is cool, it could be hard for someone with large fingers to use, as the buttons and screen are small. The photo quality is good, but the vid quality could be better

cool video for the price and quality. a good choice.

This camera is compact and light weight. I used it at a bowling alley and was surprised at the camera's ability to quickly focus in low light situations. The video wasn't too grainy either, considering things were pretty dark during shooting. SONY...

SONY's SR-45 delivers solid performance for a standard def video camera. No tapes to fuss with and plenty of time to shoot with a 30G hard drive. Excellent auto focus and easy controls for recording. The new SONY software is cool too

not much considering what the camera costs
