Sony DCR-TRV20 Camcorder Review - Sony MiniDV Camcorders

Manufactured by the Sony Corporation, the TRV-20 is a MiniDV camcorder that has a MSRP of $1,399. This camcorder has one, quarter-inch mega pixel CCD that puts out quite good pictures. The camera has a sadly small 10x optical zoom, and an IEEE1394...

Be aware of Sony products

I purchased dcr-trv20 for about $1600.00, this camcorder one day just stopped working. It lasted only for 3 years but only used it for recording 6 cassettes. I sent in for repair and they told me it'll cost me $1350.00 to repair. The whole system board...

The Sony DCR-TRV20 More Bang For The Buck!

The Sony DCR-TRV20 at first glance seems very familiar. It looks like many other lesser quality cameras and to my knowledge that is its only drawback. When I first saw the camera I was extremely skeptical. I had used at a consumer level the Sony Vx...

Excellent picture quality, solid sound capture.

At a consumer level none.

Great Little Digital Camcorder

I have owned my Sony DV camcorder for one year now. I purchased it shortly after they were released to the market because I found it to have everything I needed (digital camera) and wanted as well (a camcorder), but could not afford both. I started...

Great toy at high price

Above average camcorder

I use the DCR- TRV20 for work. It is primarily used for videotaping but along the way, the other neat features proved to be useful.

An all around camcorder/ digital camera and a lot of other nifty features.

Product Specifications

Presenting another addition to Sony's megapixel camcorder line. Sony's high-performance CCD image sensor delivers 520 lines of digital video resolution and fabulous 1152 x 864 still images. Built-in Digital Still Camera with Memory Stick allows you to store still images in digital format at 640x480 resolution in Sony's new Memory Stick memory. For convenience, they can be easily transferred to a PC where they can be stored, put in documents, shared on the Internet, or sent through e-mail. World renowned for high quality optical applications, the Carl Zeiss Varrio Sonnar zoom lens provides exceptional image quality. Hole Accumulation Diode CCD reduces noise in the video signal to improve signal-to-noise ratio by up to 6dB (2x better than a standard CCD). It is particularly effective when shooting in dark situations. 12-bit/16-bit PCM Digital Stereo Audio Recording offers a choice of either a single 16-bit/48kHz stereo audio track for DAT-quality recording, or two 12-bit/32kHz stereo tracks for CD sound quality. DV SP/LP Record and Playback Modes offer up to 60 minutes of digital recording in SP or up to 90 minutes in LP. Digital Image Stabilization helps to reduce image shake and jitter, delivering a more stable picture. Forget about cables, wires and adapters. Sony's Super LaserLink system uses infrared light to make a wireless connection from your camcorder to your television. Just use the transmitter in that is built-in to the camcorder together with the optional receiver. The Super LaserLink System features a transmission range up to 8 meters. When you're out shooting the action, the last thing you want to see is the dreaded flashing battery indicator -the sign that you've got no power left. That's why Sony cut power consumption and extended battery life.
