Sony Handycam HDR-CX130-160 review:

There's not a lot to say about Sony's 2011 entry-level camcorders, the Handycam HDR-CX130, CX160, and XR160. With their no-frills design and feature set, I'd expect them to be a little cheaper, but they're definitely an improvement over last year's...

A wide-angle lens, built-in USB cable, and consistently good automated behavior highlight the otherwise no-frills Sony Handycam HDR-CX130 , CX160 , and XR160 camcorders.

The sub-HD resolution sensor on these camcorders produces merely satisfactory video.

Typical for their price class, the no-frills Sony Handycam HDR-CX130, CX160, and XR160 produce generally subpar HD video, but if you're not picky you'll probably be fine. The CX130 is the best buy of the three, as long as you go cheap on the memory card.

Sony Handycam HDR-CX130

The CX130 is an impressive camcorder within its price range, featuring a stylish exterior and large LCD screen, though its image and video quality don't quite live up to the aesthetics.

Good low-light performance ; Pleasing design ; Easy-to-use interface and menus

Colours could be more vibrant

Overall, the Sony HDR-CX130 is an impressive camcorder within its price range. Predictably, Sony has mastered the art of the camera's appearance, making it smooth and sleek with a trendy touchscreen menu and large LCD screen. The functionality of the...

Sony HDR-CX130E

Recording to Sony Memory Stick Pro card or all varieties of SD for relative convenience, this near entry-level model in Sony's HD camcorder range incorporates a sensitive 1/4in Exmor R CMOS sensor for better results shooting in dim light and with a...

Large and obvious buttons; decent feature set for a reasonable price; choice of SD or Memory Stick storage; bright lights

Plasticky construction, though many will appreciate the larger controls; detail could be sharper

Available in red or black, this is a good mid-price option, even if detail isn’t as sharp as footage from the Canon or Panasonic.

Sony HDR-CX130E review

Recording to removable Memory Stick or SD flash, the CX130's 16GB capacity is expandable and relatively future-proofed

"Very small and easy to carry."

Photo quality is barely adequate. Carry a still camera In extremely high contrast bright situations highlights can burn out - a neutral density or polaroid filter helps this but it doesn't happen a lot.

Very small and easy to carry.

"Camera over heated. SONY SERVICE SUCKS!!!!"

The camera in practice is excellent. However, this is absolutely my last Sony product. The service is the worst I have ever experienced. The reps are apathetic at best. Sony does not care about the quality of their service. 3-4 weeks after having the...

Quality HD pic for the price. Light. Very good auto focus. Smooth zoom. Decent value. (When it works)

Camera would overheat and turn off radomly. Horrible support. SONY SERVICE HAS SUCKED! 3-4 WEEKS after 9 days of evaluation.

"Great Value for Your Money!"

After an extensively research over the internet I bought this Sony HDR CX160 camera in Miami on March 16, and after six months of continuous use I can only say that I am extremely satisfied with the product. It is really small and light, easy to carry...

1). Picture quality is stunning

1). Focus is a little tricky and there is no manual focus ring

"Can take cheap, HQ video for a cheap price."

I say its worth the money, as though i found a proffesinal camera on a discount site for less than it is now. and its no longer sold on sony's online store.

1. High definition recording.

1. no "professional" look.
