Sony HDR-CX500V

Compact design; first-rate video quality and performance; geotagging videos is fun, if limited.

No SD card support; awkward control layout; no wind filter; no manual shutter speed, iris, or audio controls; expensive.

The geotagging capability remains mostly a novelty, but the top-notch video quality of the Sony Handycam HDR-CX500V and HDR-CX520V make them worthy options. Because internal memory is overpriced, the HDR-XR500V is the better deal of the two, though you...

Sony Handycam HDR-CX500V Camcorder Review

The HDR-CX500V (MSRP $1099) from Sony is a high-end HD camcorder that records to 32GB of internal memory or Memory Stick cards. The camcorder did quite well in our testing, and its compact design is certainly striking, but Sony missed the target with...

Judging solely on performance, the Sony HDR-CX500V (MSRP $1099) is a very good camcorder. It didn't do poorly in any of our tests, although there were times when it performed slightly below average. Still, it is a strong overall camcorder in both...

Compact design, did well in tests, but missed the mark with control wheel and menu redesign

Solid low light color; Good motion results

Control dial just isn’t great; No manual shutter or aperture controls

Sony HDR-CX500V Full HD camcorder

The Sony HDR-CX500V is a flash memory-based Full HD camcorder with 32GB of inbuilt memory. Like the majority of its handycam brethren, the HDR-CX500V ...

Improved image stabilisation, good video performance, 12-megapixel still image mode

Some features are a bit superfluous, maximum 16Mbps AVCHD bit rate

The Sony HDR-CX500V is a feature-packed Full HD camcorder sporting great image quality. If you're looking for a camcorder with plenty of tricks up its sleeve, you could do a lot worse than the HDR-CX500V.

Best sub 1,000 dollar Camcorder CX500v

I shot side by side video with many Camon's HF 200, HF s10 and other Sony non-Exmor R. This camera don't just do better it smokes them in low light. Despite some reviews I have seen this CX500v has the highest resolving power compared to the others....

Best video, best low light performance, lest amount of artifacts, best shake correction, dead on focus even in low light

NONE, but maybe a wish list of things that could be optimized

Awesome camcorder! Beats out Canon by a mile!

If you are going to buy a camcorder, why cheap out and by a piece of garbage? This camcorder blows all the Canon's I looked away and has such sophisticated components and a crystal clear image that it is well worth spending the extra dough on. I even...

Easy to use and sophisticated with all the bells and whistles. Compact/small and picture/images and touch display is amazing

GPS is useless and a waste. Buttons are a little funky to reach and in weird places
