Sony Handycam HDR-CX500V Camcorder Review

The HDR-CX500V (MSRP $1099) from Sony is a high-end HD camcorder that records to 32GB of internal memory or Memory Stick cards. The camcorder did quite well in our testing, and its compact design is certainly striking, but Sony missed the target with...

Judging solely on performance, the Sony HDR-CX500V (MSRP $1099) is a very good camcorder. It didn't do poorly in any of our tests, although there were times when it performed slightly below average. Still, it is a strong overall camcorder in both...

Sony HDR-CX500V

Compact design, did well in tests, but missed the mark with control wheel and menu redesign

Solid low light color; Good motion results

Control dial just isn’t great; No manual shutter or aperture controls

Sony HDR-CX500V Full HD camcorder

The Sony HDR-CX500V is a flash memory-based Full HD camcorder with 32GB of inbuilt memory. Like the majority of its handycam brethren, the HDR-CX500V ...

Improved image stabilisation, good video performance, 12-megapixel still image mode

Some features are a bit superfluous, maximum 16Mbps AVCHD bit rate

The Sony HDR-CX500V is a feature-packed Full HD camcorder sporting great image quality. If you're looking for a camcorder with plenty of tricks up its sleeve, you could do a lot worse than the HDR-CX500V.

Read this one.

For someone that knows nothing about cameras, this is perfect. If you want to do a few Manual shots, it has no Manual Iris, SS and Gain. Only Manual exposure.nnNot for sound recording.

Good image stabilization,Good in low light,Easy to use,Great picture quality

No external mic input,Poor sound

HDR-CX500V 32GB Flash Drive HD Camcorder

I was looking for a camcorder to capture my indoor soccer camps during the winter time. I shot several videos using Sony HRD-SR11, Panasonic HDC-TM10K, Canon HF-S100 and CX500V (all borrowing from friends). HD-CX500V delivered best clips for my use:...

Worth for money!

First of all it is worth for money! Right from day one, I started exploring the options and creating videos. Low light videos turn out to be pretty good. I'll write more once I complete my exploration.

Excellent for my purposes

I am a casual user. Last new camcorder was 10 years ago (Sony DCR-PC100). What an improvement! I don't know if I'll really use the GPS but it is neat to have. I'll be going on a cruise and we'll see. At first I'll be converting the HD to normal DVD...
