Sony Handycam HDR-SR1

A virtual twin of the Sony Handycam HDR-UX1 but with shiny black-plastic accents, the HDR-SR1 delivers essentially the same video but without some of the accompanying media headaches. It too uses the AVCHD format to record 1080i HD video, but on a 30GB...

Hard disk holds about four hours of best-quality HD video; sharp, saturated, low-noise video; excellent build quality; fast, smooth focus with effective image stabilization

Mediocre still photos; frequent motion artifacts in video; lame but necessary bundled software; no windscreen filter for microphone

The Sony Handycam HDR-SR1's combination of hard disk capacity, easy adapatability, great design, and a broad feature set make it the consumer HD model to beat for 2006.

Sony HDR-SR1

In Sonys new line up of AVCHD based Handycams, the HDR-SR1 is probably the model the serious video person would look at as against its sibling, the UX-1. The major difference between the two is media; the SR-1 uses hard disc technology for video...

Sony Handycam Hdr-sr1

The Sony Handycam Hdr-sr1 is the beginning of Sony's venture into high-definition camcorder technology. It can record in 1080i or be switched to standard definition. The 30 GB hard drive will hold about four continuous hours in high definition mode. It...

The Sony Handycam Hdr-sr1 is a camera ahead of its time. The high-def video and surround sound audio makes it an electronic to envy and soon this will be the standard all camcorders are held to

"Easy to handle and produces really sharp video."

I like the size and ease to handle. I like the hard drive and the ease of transferring photos and video to a PC.

I have not been able to do live streaming on the Internet with the HDR-SR1. Can anyone tell me how to by-pass the hard drive on the SR1 and capture live video? I would like to use the SR-1 to stream live webcasts through my PC. Thanks!

Product Specifications

The HDR-SR1E captures the AV stream to an integrated 30GB hard disk, which can store up to 11 hours in 5Mbps Long Play mode. Even in the special super-quality XP mode, which involves a stunning 15 Mbps, the hard disk can hold up to 4 hours of HD video. The Smart HDD Protection system makes sure that your cherished memories are safe. In addition to the specially designed physical shock absorbers in the camcorder, the drive itself can detect the sudden acceleration of a fall and instantly auto-parks its heads, preventing them or the platters from being damaged by the impact. Better still, if you are filming, the camera will buffer the stream until the camera is stable and operational again. Do you want to keep your footage on DVD? With a single press of a button you can burn your favorite moments on a DVD and treasure them forever, thanks to the One Touch Burn function.
