Worst Experience with a Video Recorder

The software that you have to install for High Def videos is useless with Windows 7. I've lost my OS during its installation twice. I feel that I have been robbed by SONY. Don't buy any from Sony.

I can't find a PRO to tell, Most of the 90 dollars cameras around record as good as this one and you don't have to spend a fortune on this type of cameras. They are useless with Windows 7 64

It's not worth the money it costs

Great if you video for 20 minutes or less!

Feel like I have wasted a lot of money on what should be an excellent product. And it is for about 20 minutes. Seems to be a common problem for Sony cameras in this line. After hours of googling, I have found many others with the same problem and Sony...

Easy to use, good quality video, light weight

After about 20 minutes of recording, the auto focus quits working. Not why I bought a 100GB HD camcorder

Great easy to use camera, works fine on Vista 64

I purchased this camera to replace a horrible JVC GZ-MC500 (worst ever). I could not be happier with the purchase. The included software didn't initially work with Vista 64, however I have not had any problems since the last update. For any real video...

Picture quality on HD Video is stellar. Great range of colors and and picture depth. Sill pictures are decent but only when shot at 6.1Mp. Camera is literally so easy a caveman could do it

1. Price ; 2. Lack of USB / Firewire Support on camera ; 3. Batteries are very expensive, even for this industry

Still can't use with modern computers

BEWARE!!! Sony will screw you! Last December I purchased what I thought was a top of the line digital video camera in the thousand dollar range, the HDR-SR5. Almost twelve months later, I have yet to have the ability to enjoy this purchase.

Great picture and easy to use

Useless because you can't use it with a modern Vista 64 bit computer. Sony has new cameras that work with Vista 64 bit, but everyone else gets screwed. Sony developed software to work with some new camcorders, but not w/ other recent camcorders

Beautiful Camera - Just do not run on Vista 64 bit

I bought this camera 6 months ago and used it on several trips hiking in the Sierra Nevada. Wonderful pictures and compatible with my HD television. Then I bought a new computer with Windows Vista 64. To my surprise the camcorder is not compatible in...

Excellent picture, easy to use

Current USB drivers not supported in Windows Vista 64

Have put my SR8 through a lot in the past month, and it has survived all. This is one tough camera!

I love this camera! And so do all of the group I visited Antarctica and South America with. They have all gone home with copies of some of my video clips. The camera takes great video and photos, easily beating the point and shoot Olympus my partner...

Easy to use, clear crisp picture, great photos, survives rough handling

Haven't found any yet (except maybe a problem at altitudes above 4,500m)

Major incompatibility issues with Vista and 64 bit systems. No Support udpates as at Jan 5, 2008?

Unbelievable! Sony's flagship consumer camcorder is not compatible with any 64 bit computers. This makes it old techology. It isn't even compatible with Vista in any way. You are not told any of this before buying the product for you would think Sony's...

Lightweight with touchscreen programming and setup

HD camcorder but no HDMI jacks
