Apple iPhone 3G

The first iPhone was still hot off the press when rumors of a 3G model began to circulate. Fueled by the prevalence of 3G networks outside the United States-and the comparative pokiness of AT&T's EDGE network-the speculation has finally come to an end.

App store offers tons more functionality. Faster 3G network. GPS

Mediocre battery life. Some apps could have used more testing. Higher data plan rates. No bundled SMS

Small glitches can give the iPhone 3G a 1.0 feel, but its broad capabilities make it a winner for anyone who needs to stay connected to more than just a phone line.

There's much to love about Apple's new burner: GPS, 3G, Exchange support and an upgraded OS with hundreds of downloadable apps. Yet the camera still stinks,

Without exception, the best user interface of any phone. WiFi and zippy 3G network fetch websites faster than a Labrador on a sirloin. GPS with Google Maps integration beats many handheld navigators. Bright, beautiful, highly responsive touchscreen...

Battery drains juice faster than a toddler in the desert. AT&T’s 3G network riddled with more holes than Krispy Kreme. Want to cut and paste? Bust out the scissors and glue. Plastic back highly susceptible to nicks and scratches. Still no MMS. Did we...

iPhone 3G review: Twice the hype, half the novelty

It's finally here - the iPhone 3G. No, we mean that literally. It's finally at our office and boy, are we excited! GPS, HSDPA purring under the new iPhone hood with a hefty number of software enhancements. But all them software goodies...

So, back to the drill - the 3G-enabled iPhone was rumored ever since the iPhone 1G surfaced last year. Now that we have the real thing in our hands, it doesn't seem that groundbreaking anymore. Nevertheless, there are quite a few things to cover so we...

Apple iPhone 3G 8GB

The iPhone 3G is mostly what we were hoping for in the second version of the too-popular-for-itself handset. Apple addressed call quality concerns, as well as demands for a faster Web experience via 3G and corporate email support, already making it a...

Very good call quality; faster web browsing; excellent 3rd party app support; plenty of features

No video recording or native MMS; 3G drains battery fast; no expandable memory

Apple iPhone 3G Smart Phone

The latest iPhone's 3G wireless radio accelerates data surfing, but the new model offers little else to justify upgrading from the previous iPhone.

Has a 3G radio for faster wireless data ; Integrates assisted GPS

Service plan is more expensive

If you already own a first-generation iPhone, though, you should be wary of upgrading. You'll pay more for service, and if you don't live in a 3G-friendly area, or can manage well enough using a Wi-Fi network for Web browsing instead of a cellular...
