iPhone 4 Review

This iPhone 4 review goes in-depth and leaves all the politics and fanboism behind to focus on the actual user experience of using an iPhone. Is the iPhone 4 for you or not?

The iPhone 4 is an excellent smartphone, the best one in fact. This is quite a step up from the iPhone 3GS, thanks to the display and the many improvements in the OS. If you don’t have an iPhone but want to get one, I would recommend the iPhone 4 over...

iPhone 4 Review

We try to keep our Apple coverage to a minimum, as we know that it's not the favorite company of most of our readers. That's why you generally won't see a review of a new MacBook or iMac on this site even though these machines are, for all intents and...

Unparalleled screen quality; high quality camera; (sort of) multitasking

Needs a case to function properly; can only run approved apps; stuck with AT&T

Apple iPhone 4 Virgin Mobile review:

When the first iPhone debuted in 2007, it and subsequent versions were only available on AT&T. Finally, in 2011, it landed on Verizon Wireless, with Sprint getting the iPhone 4 and 4S a year later.

The Virgin Mobile iPhone 4 offers all the usual iPhone features, plus mobile hot spot, without a contract.

Virgin's iPhone 4 data speeds are slower than AT&T's and Verizon's, and it lacks both world roaming and the ability to access voice and data simultaneously.

At a hefty cost, the Virgin Mobile iPhone 4 delivers an unlimited plan without a contract -- just don't expect blazing-fast data speeds.

Apple iPhone 4 (Virgin Mobile)

Apple's iPhone 4 is still a good smartphone, but it costs too much compared with Virgin's Android-powered competitors.

The least expensive iPhone available (with service, over two years). Excellent high-res screen. Terrific apps.

Expensive. No 4G. Won't get all the features from the new iOS.

Conclusions The Virgin Mobile iPhone 4 is the least expensive iPhone model available, if you factor in the cost of the service plan. But while it's a good phone, like its sibling the 4S on Virgin, it's just much too expensive than other good phones on...

Apple iPhone 4 (Verizon Wireless)

Our lab tests show that Verizon's iPhone 4 is just as good as the wildly popular AT&T model, if not better.

Beautiful ultra-high-res screen. Thousands of apps. Wi-Fi hotspot mode.

No 4G. Needs a bumper for best reception.

Apple iPhone 4 Verizon Wireless review: Apple iPhone 4 Verizon Wireless

The Verizon iPhone 4 offers a hot-spot feature not available on AT&T's device. Performance was better in most regards.

The Verizon iPhone 4 lacks world roaming and the ability to access voice and data simultaneously. The hot-spot feature didn't work with all devices.

The Verizon iPhone 4 has much in common with its AT&T counterpart, but varying features and different performance give it enough room to stand apart. It won't vastly change your iPhone experience, but we welcome the consumer choice that it brings.

Review: Apple Verizon iPhone 4

As we all suspected would be the case, the iPhone is a better phone on Verizon than it is on AT&T. It is not, however,...

It’s a better phone, period. More likely to pull a signal, even indoors — this could change the way we converse at bars. Hot-spotting is well-integrated and very easy to use. Has a whiter, slightly better-looking display

Slow data transfers compared to the AT&T iPhone. Sluggish app installs take away from the App Store’s instant gratification. Video streams are compressed more heavily, so Netflix and YouTube are uglier. No simultaneous voice and data transmissions...

Verizon iPhone review

The Verizon iPhone 4 is an interesting product for Engadget to review. Firstly, it's not exactly a new device (not in any outwardly noticeable way).

Far fewer dropped calls than AT&T version ; No Verizon crapware ; It's the iPhone 4

Data rates slower than AT&T model ; Hotspot interrupted by incoming calls ; Poor overseas roaming options

Verizon iPhone 4 Review

If the original iPhone was the most anticipated cellphone of its time, then the Verizon iPhone 4 has to be the most demanded variant since the first launch back in 2007. A launch rumor that managed to overshadow CES 2011 despite Apple having not a...

A device is only as good as its weakest link, and for many iPhone users that link has been AT&T. Although there are plenty of satisfied users getting the best from their iPhones on the GSM network, there are others for whom the iOS experience has been...

Apple iPhone 4 review: Love it or hate it

You can't make a phone that everyone loves and Apple is not even trying. Much like any other iPhone so far, the iPhone 4 is a phone that everybody loves AND hates. Apple's latest is always the greatest – you have to give them that...

Quad-band GSM and quad-band 3G support with 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA ; 3.5" 16M-color LED-backlit TFT capacitive touchscreen of 640 x 960 px resolution ; Scratch-resistant glass front and rear, with fingerprint-resistant coating ; 1GHz Apple...

Hardware design is prone to reception issues ; MicroSIM card support only ; No Flash support in the web browser ; No true multitasking for all applications ; FaceTime video calls work only over Wi-Fi ; No file transfer over Bluetooth or USB Mass...

Apple’s latest is always the greatest – you have to give them that. Sometimes it seems they put less effort into making it than in letting people know they did. But with the Apple iPhone 4, they were obviously hard at work. The 4th generation iPhone...
