Archos 50 Platinum review

The Archos 50 Platinum is really a phone for those who need or want access to dual-SIM card functionality - a rare thing in the UK. Usually this would be business users, or those who travel a lot. Now that doesn't sound typical of Archos, the company...

Sensible price, nice design, stock Android, easy to use, dual-SIM can be very helpful, bright IPS LCD screen has natural colour

Battery life can be bad, dual-SIM interface can confuse things, bad phonebook recall for incoming calls and text messages, headphone jack is ill-fitting

We have genuine love for the Archos 50 Platinum. It's a simple phone, without much customisation, but that will be a draw for many. We found that, despite its decent spec, it can feel a bit slow and unresponsive. It's not a big deal, but this phone...

Archos 50 Platinum

Years ago, Archos was one of the very first companies out there to ship an Android-powered tablet, but it's only just now getting into the phone game. Meet the Archos 50 Platinum, a phone with a five-inch screen to sate your big screen display needs on...

We’re glad to see Archos finally getting into the smartphone game, but it faces stiff competition. Too stiff, in fact: since Google’s very own (and quite possibly subsidised) Google Nexus 4 Android smartphone packs better specs and more up to date...

Archos 50 Platinum review: Nice try, but it's no Nexus 4

Archos is a company you may have heard of before as it's one that has been in the tablet game for some time now. However, its tablet offerings, usually budget Android arrangements, have so far been relatively unsuccessful at breaking into the mainstream.

Nice screen, Good camera, Stock Android 4.1

Unreliable performance, Low onboard storage

So close and yet so far. The Archos 50 Platinum has a lot of nice surprises but the one or two unpleasant ones regarding performance put a damper on the whole experience
