Nokia E52

Nokia E52

By Frank Lewis

It's not the most exciting handset around at the moment, but the Nokia E52 still manages to impress with its long battery life, excellent call quality and useful feature set.

Long battery life ; easy to use ; good screen

Poor camera ; keypad is less than ideal for text entry

, as we liked its ease of use and impressive messaging features, so, with Nokia having nearly two years to work on the follow-up, we had high expectations for the E52

Sony Ericsson Aino

Sony Ericsson Aino

By Damian Koh

Sony Ericsson Aino - If you own a PlayStation 3, the Aino should be your next phone.

Solid build quality ; Remote Play with PS3 ; synchronizes with Microsoft Exchange ; wireless FM radio ; bundled charging dock for handset and Bluetooth headset ; 8GB microSD card included ; Wi-Fi and HSPA

No front-facing camera for video calls ; buttons a tad too stiff for our liking ; some people may find the keypad layout crammed

During the review, we could connect the Aino and PS3 over a Wi-Fi connection, but not on 3G. Sony Ericsson explained that this could be a port issue on the router, which may require users to manually configure some settings. To that, we were told that ...

Sony Ericsson W995

The W995 Walkman is great as a feature phone, but it won't offer you the best video or Web browsing experience on its tiny 2.6-inch display.

Compact and solid build quality ; 3.5mm audio jack ; wide range of preinstalled games and apps ; 8GB memory card included ; bevy of connectivity options ; respectable audio quality

Flimsy metal flip stand ; bundled stereo headset still uses Fast Port connection with 3.5mm adapter ; video capture at QVGA resolution ; average image quality

The array of control buttons on the front lets you navigate menus and cancel commands and brings up the shortcuts/multitask window and play/pause tunes. You also have the Call/End buttons here. It gets more cramped on the right edge. There are three ...

Samsung Galaxy I7500

Samsung I7500

By Flora Graham

Samsung has brought some crave-worthy hardware features to its first Android handset, the Galaxy I7500, like a gorgeous screen, good camera and plenty of onboard memory. But it runs on the bog-standard version of Android, which means it lacks ...

Vibrant screen ; plenty of onboard memory ; good camera, with LED photo light ; 3.5mm headphone jack ; support for wonderful Android apps ; responsive user interface

Dull appearance ; no multitouch ; sub-par keyboard design ; bog-standard version of Android means no innovations

Garmin-Asus Nuvifone M20

Garmin-Asus nuvifone M20 - We take a look at the first device from these two companies' collaboration to create navigation-focused smartphones. -

Good GPS features ; compact and lightweight ; handy hold switch ; 4GB internal storage ; car kit included in standard package

Small 2.8-inch screen makes in-car navigation impractical ; no memory expansion option ; poor battery life

The M20 docked in its car kit

Sony Ericsson Satio(Idou)

Sony Ericsson Satio

By Damian Koh

Sony Ericsson Satio - We finally got our mitts on Sony Ericsson's first S60 touchscreen smartphone sporting a 12-megapixel camera. -

Good image quality ; RoadSync for synchronizing with Exchange server ; large, vibrant touchscreen ; Xenon and LED flashes ; great Web browser ; bundled Wisepilot navigation software ; 8GB microSDHC card

Proprietary audio/PC connector ; no bundled 3.5mm adapter ; inconsistent S60 5th edition user interface

Although we don't particularly favor the combination of curves and straight edges on the device, in the hands, the Satio feels like it can withstand a few scuffles and knocks without giving way despite its plastic chassis. Our review unit came in ...

LG GM730

LG GM730

By John Chan

The GM730's feature set makes it feel like it belongs in 2008. Unless you really like the design, there are much better WM phones out there to.

Small and light ; stylish design ; HSDPA connectivity ; 5-megapixel camera

Inconsistent interface ; small 3-inch WQVGA screen ; poor battery life ; stylus required for accurate tapping ; no dedicated audio port

The downside to being compact is having limited space for the screen. The touchscreen on the GM730 measures 3 inches diagonally. This would have been more than acceptable just a year back, but with mid- to high-end smartphones sporting larger displays ...

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

Sony Ericsson's first attempt at a Windows Mobile phone is a good one which will satisfy productivity and entertainment needs.

3.5mm audio jack ; full set of connectivity features ; GPS ; good 3.2-megapixel camera ; excellent WVGA display ; nice design

Panel interface can be slow ; camera interface and focusing slow ; average battery life ; optical joystick not particularly useful

The X1 (right) looks narrower than the Touch Pro even though it is not

Nokia E55

Nokia E55

By Frank Lewis

The Nokia E55 is impressively slim, has great battery life and is easy to use. The hybrid keypad may not be to everyone's taste, but, once mastered, it's surprisingly effective. Overall, it's an impressive handset.

Hybrid alphanumeric/QWERTY keypad works surprisingly well ; impressively slim for a smartphone ; good battery life

Series60 operating system isn't as slick as the iPhone OS or Android

According to Nokia, the E55 is available only in Australia in the Asia-Pacific region

Nokia 5630 XpressMusic

Nokia 5630 XpressMusic

By John Chan

This XpressMusic model gets most things right at a good price. Just watch out for its poor battery life, especially if you are prone to long music-listening spells.

Compact form factor ; good music playback features ; inexpensive ; good keypad ; HSDPA connectivity up to 10.2Mbps

QVGA screen ; no GPS ; poor battery life ; no autofocus for camera

While it may work for music, the tiny 2.2-inch QVGA display on this smartphone makes it hard to view videos. You can still do so as the software will support video playback, but the small screen will make it uncomfortable after a few minutes
