Samsung Captivate

Guy walks into an AT&T store and says, “I want a touch-screen smartphone, but I'm concerned about the iPhone 4 antenna issues.” Until the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate, AT&T sales staffers could only perform stuttering a Ralph Kramden prevarication. But...

Bright, colorful, glossy 4-inch AMOLED screen ; Google Android OS v2.1 ; 5-megapixel camera, 720p HD video recorder ; 16GB built-in memory ; Light, sleek, uncluttered exterior

Touch controls backlighting out-of-sync with screen ; No camera flash ; No front-facing camera ; Confusing lock switch in camera mode ; Slower Web surfing than iPhone

Samsung’s iPhone-challenging Galaxy S Captivate offers a larger screen and blissful freedom from antenna issues, but has its own headaches, too.

Samsung Captivate (AT&T)

The Samsung Captivate features a gorgeous Super AMOLED screen, a 1GHz processor, 16GB of onboard memory, and it has an expansion slot. The Android 2.1 device also offers great call quality, full wireless options, and a HD video capture.

AT&T won't let you sideload apps to the phone; camera lacks a flash.

The Samsung Captivate is easily AT&T's best Android phone to date. It delivers great performance, tons of features, and an easy-to-use interface.

Thanks to its jaw-dropping display and good performance, this high-end Android phone finally gives AT&T customers a worthy iPhone alternative.

The fact that the Samsung Captivate is the best Android phone on AT&T almost goes without saying. The combination of its Super AMOLED screen, 1-GHz processor, and HD video recording make it a no-brainer. But is it better than the competition? We prefer...

Samsung Captivate (AT&T)

The Captivate connects to AT&T's and foreign 3G networks, as well as to 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi networks. The phone also has Bluetooth 3.0, which sounds exciting but doesn't offer any real-world advantages over version 2.1. The Captivate got average RF...

Fast. Powerful processor. Bright, beautiful screen. PC syncing options

Media store not ready yet. No voice dialing over Bluetooth. No flash on camera

The Samsung Captivate is the top Android phone on AT&T and the best alternative to an iPhone.
