RIM BlackBerry 7230 (T-Mobile)

Some jokingly refer to the 7230 as a BlueBerry rather than a BlackBerry because of its blue casing. A bit shorter and thicker (4.4 by 2.9 by 0.94 inches) than RIM's stalwart 957, the unit is compact for a smart phone; male buyers will probably wear it...

Compact; color screen; nice built-in keyboard; real-time e-mail; Web browser; Java support (J2ME); compact travel charger and syncing cable; decent battery life.

Lacks speakerphone and memory-expansion slot.

So long as you have decent T-Mobile coverage in your area, the BlackBerry 7230 makes an excellent smart phone.

RIM BlackBerry 7230

BlackBerry fans will be happy to welcome the RIM BlackBerry 7230 handheld ($400 plus monthly service charges), the first RIM model with a color display and 900-, 1,800-, and 1,900-MHz tri-band GSM/GPRS coverage for international use.

BlackBerry 7230 reviewed

Research in Motion's BlackBerry 7230 (its first world compatible color BlackBerry) is reviewed in October's issue of PC Magazine. It scored 4/5 and was praised for its 64K color screen. It got knocked for slow web browsing speeds (what can...

"Blackberry Work Horse"

This the Blackberry work horse, the most popular Blackberry handheld. Rightfully so, it is smaller than the 75xx and 77xx. I find those models a little too big for my taste. Email on the go is addicting, they should of had his 10 years ago, also the...

email anywhere, built tough, scroll wheel

backlight is weak, speaker is low

"Best out there, but that's not saying much"

The real-time email is a major plus, and it's why I bought the device in the first place. Also, the ergonomic design with the click-wheel is very well thought out.

The above pros notwithstanding, this product is poor enough that if there were any competitor products out there, I would immediately switch. Luckily for RIM, the iPaq's are even worse than the Blackberries. Where do I begin? 1. In possibly the worst pro

"it's not a phone - several people in our company have ditched it"

It checks email. We got them cheap. It doesn't crash much

The phone features are absolutely horrible and the ergonomics are bad as well. it takes over 5 seconds to grab a number from my SIM card (who wants to sort through over 1000 contacts when you've got the important numbers on the SIM). The escape button is

"Why did RIM go only half way???"

I have had it for a month now. I had done a good amount of research for my next toy before-hand to replace an otherwise good cellphone (Nokia 6100) which I was using pretty much for the same functions as the BB except with a tiny screen, no keyboard but a

Plenty! RIM is not paying attention to details. I emailed them and they are saying new products are coming out in 04. I am hoping those will correct the cons of my 7230. Comes with an IR port but it is not being used by the OS. What is that??? No blueto
