BlackBerry Curve 8530 (MetroPCS)

While you don't often see smartphones offered by smaller carriers, BlackBerrys tend to be the exception to the norm. The BlackBerry Curve 8530, for example, is now available for MetroPCS , after making the rounds with Verizon and Sprint. The Curve 8530...

The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530 for MetroPCS has a lightweight and compact design with features like Wi-Fi, EV-DO, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 2.0-megapixel camera. It has fantastic call quality as well.

The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530 has a low-resolution screen, and we experienced spotty 3G service.

Though not the best BlackBerry on the market, the Curve 8530 is a great entry-level smartphone, especially with MetroPCS's inexpensive unlimited monthly plan.

BlackBerry Curve 8530 - black (Virgin Mobile)

The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530 for Virgin Mobile is similar to Sprint's version of the smartphone, offering a full QWERTY keyboard, a 2-megapixel camera, 3G support, and--of course--push e-mail. Its other features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and access to...

BlackBerry Curve 8530 (ruby red, Sprint)

The BlackBerry Curve 8500 series is making the rounds to all the carriers, including Sprint , which offers the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530. Like the others, the smartphone is a great foray into the world of smartphones for the first-time buyer. Though it...

The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530 offers ease of use and a compact design. Its features include Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 2-megapixel camera.

The smartphone feels a bit cheap and it has a low-resolution screen. Its call quality could be better.

Some design issues aside, the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530 is a great value for Sprint customers looking for an entry-level smartphone.

BlackBerry Curve 8530 (Verizon Wireless)

Verizon's second Curve is faster and sleeker than the original, but the Web browser needs work.

The BlackBerry Curve 8530 is a good smart phone for work and play. The identically priced Droid Eris will be a more compelling device for many because of its better Web browser, larger screen, customizable touch interface, and larger selection of apps....

BlackBerry Curve 8530 (smoky violet, Verizon Wireless)

As the CDMA kin to the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8520, the RIM Curve 8530 for Verizon Wireless is more of an entry-level device, so you won't find some of the higher-end features found on the BlackBerry Tour, such as world roaming capabilities and a...

The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530 has 3G and GPS support, which the T-Mobile version did not. The compact smartphone also offers Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a 2-megapixel camera

The smartphone feels a bit cheap in the hand and has a low-resolution screen. You can only save apps to the phone's main memory

While we're not huge fans of the design, the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530 is a good choice for first-time smartphone buyers and offers more than its GSM counterpart.

BlackBerry Curve 8530 - black (Alltel)

Editors' note: Portions of the Feature section were taken from our review of the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8520 for T-Mobile since the two smartphones have similar capabilities.

BlackBerry Curve 8530 (Sprint)

Refined form factor. Excellent keyboard. Plenty of streamed video services. Costs less than the Verizon version

Sluggish Web browser. Could use a bump in screen and camera resolution. Middling battery life

Sprint's version of the BlackBerry Curve 8530 is superior to Verizon's thanks to lower plan prices and more video services.

BlackBerry Curve 8530 (Verizon Wireless)

The Web browser is still a weak point. It does a nicer job rendering HTML pages than before, but it's sluggish and often hangs up loading images and scripts. The trackpad was fine for general navigation and zooming in or out.

Lighter and faster than before. Finally includes Wi-Fi. Good voice quality. Excellent QWERTY keyboard

Low screen resolution. Middling camera. Updated Web browser is still clunky

RIM updates its popular Curve on Verizon by adding Wi-Fi, a faster CPU, and BlackBerry OS 5.0, but it's still not enough to lead the pack.

BlackBerry Curve 8530 (MetroPCS)

The Pinnacle is a tri-band 2G 1xRTT (850/1700/1900 MHz) CDMA device with no Wi-Fi. The phone is 2G only, as MetroPCS lacks a 3G data network. The carrier has 4G LTE, but only higher-end smartphones operate on it. On the plus side, unlimited,...

Comfortable keyboard. Lightweight. Good music player. Nice display

Lackluster camera. Poor video playback. Short battery life

The Huawei Pinnacle is short on features, but it's a good option if you need a lightweight, budget-priced phone built for texting.

BlackBerry Curve 8530 (Cricket Wireless)

The Curve measures 4.3 by 2.4 by .6 inches (HWD) and weighs a surprisingly light 3.7 ounces. The phone features a slab-style, four-row physical QWERTY keyboard with sculpted, highly raised keys, making it ideal for frequent texters.
