Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Review

Samsung released its latest Galaxy S Android smartphone earlier this year, the Samsung Galaxy S4, which since then has sold like hotcakes as it's been released globally. One thing we didn't expect was for there to be an additional version […]

It may not offer as many bells and whistles as the Galaxy S4, but the Galaxy S4 Active is still a very good smartphone that will be able to offer the same overall Galaxy S4 experience in a durable case. In the world of durable handsets, we’re confident...

Review Samsung Galaxy S4 Active GT-I9295 Smartphone

Refined water lover. Samsung slips a 5-inch TFT screen with Full

IP certification; TFT with stable image from many angles; Full HD; Excellent connectivity options; Well thought-through controls under water

Throttling SoC when under load for an extended period; Speaker is spine-chilling at high volume; Middle-of-the-road battery life

Real outdoor competition is currently just the Sony Xperia Z and maybe the HTC Butterfly, as it does have an IPX5 certification.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Review

The Galaxy S4 Active is possibly the best-designed high-end phone we've ever used.

Waterproof and dustproof ; Beautiful 1080p screen ; Fast, smooth performance ; Comfortable, attractive design ; Tons of features

Mediocre battery life ; Rear camera is weaker than S4 (8MP) ; TouchWiz interface has cartoony design

The Galaxy S4 Active is the best phone on AT&T. It has everything the S4 has, with added water and dust resistance. Like the S4, battery life isn’t amazing, but the Active requires no compromises.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Active

Quite a few smartphones these days can claim to be waterproof, but you have to hand it to Samsung's Galaxy S4 Active for turning that characteristic into a camera feature. Specs-wise, that waterproof camera is the only element that justifies the...

Samsung's Galaxy S4 Active has a sporty design, takes strong daylight photos, and delivers the majority of Android 4.2 features. It also has a great speakerphone.

Aqua mode is fixed focus, the S4 Active takes weak low light shots, and the phone isn't as durable as its name suggests. Its 8-megapixel camera is lower resolution than the original Galaxy S4's.

Choose the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active for its sporty style, fast internals, and underwater camera fun, but pass if you're an image snob or seek a truly rugged phone.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Active

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active brings water resistance, a louder speaker and better outdoor readability for the same price of the regular S4.

Dust- and water-resistant design; Underwater photovideo feature; Louder speaker than regular S4; Great array of special features; Better outdoor viewability than original S4

Lower camera resolution than original S4; LCD lacks rich colors of AMOLED; Heavier and thicker than regular S4

Click to EnlargeThe Samsung Galaxy S4 Active isn't a rugged phone, per se, but it does offer water and dust protection without weighing you down. We also like the very loud speaker and the camera's Aqua mode, though we wish it had as high a resolution...

Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active (AT&T)

The Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active remixes the successful S 4 with a waterproof coating for the accident-prone, but the camera suffers.

Waterproof. Excellent speakerphone. Super fast processor. Latest version of Android

Camera isn't quite as good as standard S 4. Not actually rugged

The slightly confusingly named Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active ($199.99-594.99) isn't quite a Galaxy S 4 in a waterproof case. It's a different phone, albeit with the S 4's processor and Android skin. Some of the changes are for the better (a super-loud...

Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active Review

Samsung either has an addiction or a compulsion: whatever the reason, the company can't help pumping out Galaxy S 4 variants, like the Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active. A waterproof, dust-proof version of the flagship Android smartphone, the Active model...

For those reasons, we’d still opt it over the regular Galaxy S 4, even with the dip in the camera’s abilities. There’s an old saying that the best camera is the one you have with you; to that we’d add that the best camera is also the one which can...

Samsung Galaxy S4 Active review: a top-tier phone in a water-resistant package

After Samsung's latest product push in London, we have nothing short of a Galaxy S 4 franchise on our hands. While the company unveiled its expected Mini

Attractive, comfortable design ; Effective water-resistant features ; Fluid everyday performance

Disappointing battery life ; Lower-quality display than GS4

With a water-resistant casing and a comfortable, attractive design, Samsung's Galaxy S4 Active is a strong option for outdoorsy -- and clumsy -- types. Just don't expect all the bells and whistles of the original Galaxy S 4.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Active preview: First look

Add together the brawn of the Xcover and the brains of a Galaxy S4 and you get the S4 Active. The actual flagship can handle any digital task you throw at it, but the Active version can cope with the grittier side of life. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active...

There already are water-resistant cases for the Samsung Galaxy S4, so for under $40 you can obtain the one true advantage the S4 Active has over the S4. So why would anyone buy the S4 Active when it doesn't have a Super AMOLED screen or a 13MP camera?

Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Review

Being IP67 certified, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active doesn't mind getting a little wet every once in a while. In fact, it should be able to survive a dive into water down to a meter for up to 30 minutes. The handset is dust-tight as well. At the same...

Water and dust resistant ; High-resolution display ; Fast processor ; Screen can be used with gloves

Screen does not work when wet ; Other high-ends have better cameras

No matter how we look at it, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active is a pretty awesome smartphone. It is one of the very few devices that are tough enough to resist some serious dust and water damage, yet good-looking and extremely capable at the same time. To...
