Helio Ocean 2

When the Helio Ocean was released two years ago, it marked the coming-of-age of the young MVNO upstart that was Helio. It was the carrier's first smartphone-like device, and it was also Pantech's first attempt at a dual-slider handset (Pantech would go...

The Helio Ocean 2 has a spacious QWERTY keyboard and number keypad and an innovative optical sensor touch pad that allows for easier navigation. It has plenty of features like EV-DO, GPS, a full HTML browser with tabbed browsing, Microsoft Exchange...

The Helio Ocean 2 is bulky, plus it lacks external music keys, an LED flash for the camera, and a self-portrait mirror. The microSD card slot is inconveniently located behind the battery

If you can get over its size, the Helio Ocean 2 is a great feature-rich handheld with enough Web-friendly goodies to please both tech-savvy hipsters and mobile professionals.

Helio Ocean 2 Review

The original Helio Ocean burst onto the scene nearly two years ago, impressing with its dual slide design, Bluetooth, 3G, GPS and well-integrated messaging app challenging phones on both sides of the feature / smart phone line. 2009 finds the Ocean 2...

Dual slider design is thinner this time around ; Slick, minimally-intrusive notifications ; Music player works in the background of all apps

Little / no third party software support ; Touchpad isn't very responsive ; SD card inconveniently located under the battery

Helio Helio Ocean

The Helio Ocean is a stylish, feature-packed phone. Its innovative dual-slider design allows for both a standard phone keypad and a full keyboard. Though it lacks Wi-Fi, it offers fast EvDO data access, Bluetooth, built-in GPS, and a great do-it-all...

Innovative dual-slider design ; Excellent messaging software

Sometimes lackluster call quality ; Small selection of non-game apps

With an innovative design and great features, the Ocean would be a favorite if it had better call quality.

Helio Ocean

This powerful and easy-to-use messaging phone crams a tidal wave of features into a groundbreaking dual-slider design.

Slick dual-slider design ; Integrated Inbox with contact presence ; Convenient Direct Search feature ; Good video streaming performance

Limited multitasking abilities ; Lackluster camera ; Browser doesn't automatically load full Web pages

Helio ocean

Excuse us while we duck out the back door. Hired goons are trying to repo our Helio Ocean loaner, and we'd rather deal with shattered kneecaps than give it up.

Out-of-the-box text messaging via AIM, Yahoo!, and MSN. Out-of-the-box e-mail via AOL, Gmail, Windows Live, Yahoo!, and POP/IMAP accounts. Google Maps-powered GPS simple to use, gets you out of tight spots. Hot looks good way to start conversations...

It’s a heavy, bulky brick. No dedicated number keys on the thumb ‘board. No integrated Wi-Fi to augment Sprint's spotty network coverage. Screen virtually unreadable outdoors

Helio Ocean (Pantech PN-810)

The Ocean, Sidekick, and iPhone take a middle path. Helio has covered the Ocean with to features yet to be born hidden away in the menu and promises a steady stream of upgrades and changes—entirely under Helio's control. Third-party apps, meanwhile,...

Dual-slider design for phone and QWERTY keypads. Flexible messaging software. Very good screen and camera

Many features aren't quite here yet, but Helio promises they're coming. Quiet speakerphone

While the T-Mobile Sidekick stood still, Helio moved forward. The wireless service provider's new Ocean handset fits neatly between the juvenile Sidekick and the buttoned-down BlackBerry as an all-around multimedia handheld.

Helio Ocean 2

As for Virgin Mobile, it's a big (five million customers), profitable wireless carrier that uses Sprint's EV-DO network to make calls and surf the Net. Virgin Mobile built up its business with cheap phones and inexpensive prepaid plans, but the Ocean...

Push e-mail. Brings together contacts, IMs, and e-mail messages from multiple accounts. GPS. Plenty of additional features and apps

Very bulky. Default Web browser is slow. Requires a two-year Virgin Mobile contract

The Helio Ocean 2 isn't only a master at messaging, it's a solid voice phone, too. If only it weren't so huge.

Helio Ocean 2 (Virgin Mobile)

Like Palm's highly anticipated phone, Virgin Mobile's Helio Ocean 2 is a master at messaging. But it's the size and shape of a boat.

Helio Ocean Cell Phone Review

The Helio Ocean is a high-end phone focused on giving jet setters more powerful tools to stay in touch with  friends. Although there are similarities to smart phones like the HTC Mogul or the BlackBerry Curve (including a full QWERTY keyboard), the...
