HTC Amaze 4G review: Upping the ante

HTC Amaze 4G is joining the über-smartphone ranks in the United States at a time, when the competition has reached its peak. The device is part of the first wave of smartphones, capable of reaching 42Mbps on T-Mobile's HSDPA network. It was launched...

Quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G support ; 42 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA ; 4.3" 16M-color capacitive LCD touchscreen of qHD resolution (540 x 960 pixels); Gorilla glass ; Android OS v2.3.4 Gingerbread with HTC Sense 3.0 ; 1.5 GHz dual Scorpion CPUs,...

Screen performance is not on par with the best offerings ; At 173 grams, the device is downright heavy ; microSD card slot is located under the cover ; No headphones enclosed in the retail package ; Battery life is questionable

HTC Amaze 4G review

T-Mobile reveals HTC Amaze 4G, flaunts better camera and faster HSPA+Ericsson demos 42Mbps HSPA Evolution for the laypeopleSamsung

Attractive design ; HSPA+ / theoretical 42Mbps network speeds ; Easily accessible camera and camcorder shortcuts

Washed out qHD display ; Short battery life with moderate usage ; Handling the phone is slightly uncomfortable

Despite being one of T-Mob's first HSPA+ 42Mbps phones, HTC's Amaze 4G fails to stun with its subpar battery life and washed out qHD display.

HTC Amaze 4G review:

It was only four months ago that T-Mobile and HTC released the MyTouch 4G Slide , touting the Android handset as having the most advanced camera of any smartphone, but it appears the Slide's reign was shortlived. Now, the new HTC Amaze 4G holds that...

The HTC Amaze 4G features a premium chassis, a sharp Super LCD touch screen, and a dual-core processor. It's equipped with an 8-megapixel camera with a number of advanced shooting modes and settings. T-Mobile's HSPA+ 42 speeds were impressive.

The smartphone is heavy and expensive. The camera still struggled in low-light environments.

The HTC Amaze 4G is a beautifully designed and fast Android smartphone, with some advanced camera features, but don't go ditching your point-and-shoot camera just yet.

HTC Amaze 4G (T-Mobile)

The HTC Amaze 4G has a big beautiful screen, a great camera, and fast HSPA+ 42 speeds, making it a top choice for Android smartphones on T-Mobile.

Fast. Beautiful, high-res screen. Solid HSPA+ 42 speeds. Terrific Web performance. Excellent camera features.

Expensive. Heavy. HDMI out requires an adapter.

Most attractive Android phone yet, Fast dual-core speeds, Capable of fast 4G downloads, Sharp and powerful camera, Loud speaker

Relatively heavy, Inconsistent 4G speeds, Shorter battery life than T-Mobile's Galaxy S II, Expensive
