Huawei Ascend II (U.S. Cellular) review: Huawei Ascend II (U.S. Cellular)

The Huawei Ascend II has an appealing, compact design, and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It comes with a microSD card preinstalled and the price is great.

Unfortunately, the Ascend II is saddled with a slow processor, a mediocre camera, and disappointing battery performance.

The Huawei Ascend II comes at an unbeatable price for an Android smartphone, but the trade-off is getting lower-end features that sometimes underperform.

Huawei Ascend II Written Review by Sydney

Huawei's U.S. offerings have never been particularly impressive. The original Ascend was a severely underpowered, cheap smartphone that barely offered enough performance to scrap by as a modest low-end phone in the market that existed a year ago, when...

Price; nice customization options with Huawei's UI/launcher; good 3G speeds

Sluggish processor performance; doesn't handle multi-tasking well; terrible camera quality; no multi-touch; poor battery life

All things being considered, the Ascend II is not worth your time. I understand it may seem hard to berate a free phone, but the fact is that U.S. Cellular has better options in this price range.

"Terrible Phone. Glad they discontinued it!"

I have had this phone for the full two years on Contract with US Cellular. It is the WORST phone I have ever had! It has to be reset constantly! In the past two months I have reset my phone at least 5 times. You cannot even have Instagram, Twitter,...

"2 stars out of the box... however!"

2 stars out of the box. The most miserable thing about this phone is that it comes with only a gig's worth of pictures and music space. However if you are just a little phone tech savvy and ambitious, you can install Cyanogenmod and overclock the...

"This phones is slow, performs badly, and is too small."

I would not recommend this phone to anyone. I had a HTC Desire that I dropped with no insurance, so I bought the cheapest phone at the store, which was a Huawei Ascend II, and it's been awful since the day I got it from the store. Everything about it...

The only good experience I had with this phone was the Navigation system. The GPS worked very well until the smal battery life reared it's ugly head. Same thing with the mobile hotspot. It was really helpful while the battery lasted.

The battery life is awful. The camera is awful. When texting, the keyboard is very slow to respond. It randomly decided to turn off at very inconvenient times. Apps tend to crash a lot. Speaker quality is not good. The entire system is just slow.

"it is "ok" but it's definately not a "smart" phone"

So I can't text very well, I can't play games and certain things take forever to download (like songs)....So I can talk to someone on the phone and that's about it, I can text but I have to delete what I typed so often it's not even worth the effort....

Good sound, good viewing quality

Screen is too small for texting I hit wrong buttons ALL the time, was never a problem with last phone. I have downloaded a couple games but about a minute into playing the games they foreclose I have attempted it several times with different games.

Not worth it.

VERY* VERY* VEEERYY DISSAPOINTED***** I regret getting this phone, should've just spent a little more on a better quality phone and went with another service provider, even if I would've had to sign a contract. Cricket's customer service (if you can...

Looks nice

Not able to sync different email accounts, to access your emails you have to go through the internet browser and sign in into each of your email accounts. Poor call and speaker quality. Camera takes blurry pictures, it has no flash
