Huawei Mate 8 (64GB, mocha brown)

The Mate 8 isn't expected to come to the US.

Huawei's Mate 8's battery life goes on and on, it snaps good photos and has a fast, accurate fingerprint sensor and a loud speakerphone.

This ginormous 6-inch phone is just too unwieldy for smaller hands. It has a dim screen and a low resolution compared with other phones.

The huge, metal Huawei Mate 8 has plenty of appeal and only minor drawbacks, but it's too expensive to sway fans of large-screen phones from the Nexus 6P or Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 review

With a massive 6.1-inch screen and a battery to match, the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 has plenty to offer, even if its size and middling specs will turn some would-be buyers away.

The Huawei Ascend Mate 2 won’t be universally loved, mainly because its screen size is controversial and it isn’t exactly a high-end device on paper. However, the Mate 2 proves that a smartphone doesn’t necessarily have to come with the latest and...

Huawei Ascend Mate2 review: No-contract, low price phone that lasts forever

Huawei launched their first phone selling directly in the US with the Ascend Mate2 and it is quite compelling at a low $299.99 unlocked, no-contract price.

I did not expect much from the Ascend Mate2 due to the low price with reasonably high-end specifications. The construction is quite impressive though and the battery life is stunning. I have come to like the Emotion UI that combines widgets from...

Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G review: Value king

The Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G is a landmark for the manufacturer in the United States. The 6.1" LTE phablet is the first device, which the company will offer in the country as a standalone OEM, via its own online store, without partnering with a wireless...

6.1" 720p IPS+ LCD display with Gorilla Glass 3, usable with gloves; 79% screen to body ratio ; Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with Emotion UI 2.0 ; 1.6GHz Cortex-A7 quad-core CPU, Adreno 305 GPU; Qualcomm MSM8928 Snapdragon 400 chipset; 2GB of RAM ; 16GB of...

Android 4.3 is already an outdated OS choice in mid-2014 ; Emotion UI 2.0 might not fit all tastes ; No changes in design since the previous generation ; No NFC

After spending plenty of quality time with it, we can safely conclude that the Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G proved to be exactly what we expected. By combining quality mid-range specs headed by a large IPS display, a beefy battery with outstanding endurance,...

Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G LTE

Huawei's 6.1-inch Ascend Mate 2 4G LTE offers a big display and nearly 15 hours of battery for just $299 without a contract, making it a strong value.

Affordable no-contract price; Incredibly long battery life; Doubles as device charger; Big and vibrant display

Relatively low-resolution screen; Interface can feel cluttered; Camera struggles in low light

Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G (Unlocked)

For half the price of mainstream unlocked phones, the Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G delivers a polished, supersized-phablet experience with unrivaled battery life.

Only $299 unlocked. Giant 6.1-inch display. Outstanding battery life

Relatively low-resolution display. Heavy-handed Android skin

Want to know the best thing about smartphones? They keep getting bigger, I stay the same size. I'm being facetious, of course, but in truth, I'm starting to see why some people lust after these monolithic devices. And while smartphone sizes have inched...

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G review:

The 6.1-inch Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G doesn't have the most recent Android version, the highest camera quality, or the sharpest new specs. But it does have one of the lowest prices we've seen for a phone this huge -- and its solid performance, and...

The Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G has a fun custom interface, 16GB of internal storage, clear call quality, and mostly strong data and internal performance.

Weak image quality from the Mate 2's 13-megapixel camera, a poor speakerphone, and low pixel density in the screen are drawbacks. It's also far too big for some hands.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a phone for the size and price of the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G that performs as well as it does.

Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G Review

This week we're having a peek at the newest piece of hardware offered up by Huawei to the North American market: the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 (aka the Ascend Mate2 4G). This device is made to delivery a little bit of everything, including a large display,...

At $299 off-contract, it’s easy to overlook the relative lack of explosive or otherwise stand-out features on the Huawei Ascend Mate 2. You’ll have to purchase the device through Huawei’s new online store, and it’ll be shipped direct to you from there....

Huawei Ascend Mate2 Review

The Huawei Ascend Mate2 is a 6-inch-plus Android behemoth that walks the line between a phablet for everyday and business users. Sometimes bigger is better. For aging eyes or for people who don't want to carry a smartphone and a tablet or pay for both,...

Nice design, solid build ; Excellent battery life ; Decent camera performance

Likely too big for many users ; Runs out-of-date version of Android ; Confusing SIM design

While the Ascend Mate2 is fine for personal and business use, there are going to be tradeoffs due its size. For one, the device will stick out of most pockets and will mostly need to be carried in a bag. Additionally, some people might not be...

Review: Huawei Ascend Mate 2

The Ascend Mate 2 from Huawei represents an interesting choice. This big-screened Android smartphone isn't being sold by US carriers, but it is available unlocked and on the cheap from Huawei itself. Here is Phone Scoop's full report.
