Huawei Ascend Mate 2 review

With a massive 6.1-inch screen and a battery to match, the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 has plenty to offer, even if its size and middling specs will turn some would-be buyers away.

The Huawei Ascend Mate 2 won’t be universally loved, mainly because its screen size is controversial and it isn’t exactly a high-end device on paper. However, the Mate 2 proves that a smartphone doesn’t necessarily have to come with the latest and...

Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G review: Value king

The Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G is a landmark for the manufacturer in the United States. The 6.1" LTE phablet is the first device, which the company will offer in the country as a standalone OEM, via its own online store, without partnering with a wireless...

6.1" 720p IPS+ LCD display with Gorilla Glass 3, usable with gloves; 79% screen to body ratio ; Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with Emotion UI 2.0 ; 1.6GHz Cortex-A7 quad-core CPU, Adreno 305 GPU; Qualcomm MSM8928 Snapdragon 400 chipset; 2GB of RAM ; 16GB of...

Android 4.3 is already an outdated OS choice in mid-2014 ; Emotion UI 2.0 might not fit all tastes ; No changes in design since the previous generation ; No NFC

After spending plenty of quality time with it, we can safely conclude that the Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G proved to be exactly what we expected. By combining quality mid-range specs headed by a large IPS display, a beefy battery with outstanding endurance,...

Huawei MateBook review: this tablet wants to be a PC, but misses the basics

In the world of tablet computing, there are two camps. There's the Microsoft Surface (and its clones) camp, which attempts to make hardware that transforms from tablet to laptop and back again....

Sleek, aluminum unibody design ; Snappy performance ; Vibrant display

Keyboard case is poorly designed ; Battery life is atrocious ; Poor heat management

Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G (Unlocked)

For half the price of mainstream unlocked phones, the Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G delivers a polished, supersized-phablet experience with unrivaled battery life.

Only $299 unlocked. Giant 6.1-inch display. Outstanding battery life.

Relatively low-resolution display. Heavy-handed Android skin.

Camera and Conclusions The 13-megapixel, rear-facing camera is capable of some good shots. Outdoors or in good lighting scenarios, images are full of detail with vibrant, if slightly oversaturated colors. Details are preserved in highlights and shadows...

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G review

The 6.1-inch Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G doesn't have the most recent Android version, the highest camera quality, or the sharpest new specs. But it does have one of the lowest prices we've seen for a phone this huge -- and its solid performance, and...

The Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G has a fun custom interface, 16GB of internal storage, clear call quality, and mostly strong data and internal performance.

Weak image quality from the Mate 2's 13-megapixel camera, a poor speakerphone, and low pixel density in the screen are drawbacks. It's also far too big for some hands.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a phone for the size and price of the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G that performs as well as it does.

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 Review: Incredible Battery Life & Value

While there's some level of choice for high-spec, high-value smartphones at the ~5" display size segment, the same is far from true for phablets. The Galaxy Note line is generally considered to be the only phablet worth looking at, and there really...

It’s important to get back to pricing. The Mate 2 will be sold unlocked at GetHuawei.com, and from June 12
