Huawei Ascend P7 review

Huawei's Ascend P7 is a well-designed smartphone with a premium feel and mid-range specs. It takes after the iPhone's looks, but how well does its…

Big, 1080p 5-inch screen ; iPhone-level build quality ; 8MP selfie cam ; Good rear camera ; MicroSD card support

Battery won’t last you a day ; Slippery back slides right off tables ; Doesn’t feel like an Android phone ; No removable battery

Huawei has a real winner in the Ascend P7. It may not have the same ultra high-end specs as the LG G3, HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy S5, or other flagship Android smartphones, but it offers strong performance and adds a nice build quality to the mix. The...

Huawei Ascend P7 ( black)

Huawei has a new flagship phone, set to do battle in the brutal smartphone arena against the Samsung Galaxy S5 , HTC One M8 and Sony Xperia Z2 . It's called the Ascend P7 and, if the name didn't give you a clue, it's the successor to last year's Ascend...

The Huawei Ascend P7's skinny, glass body looks quite classy, it has a decent camera and enough power for the everyday tasks, plus the latest version of Android on board.

Its slow processor, slightly cheap feel and often awkward Android skin means it doesn't really do anything to put itself above the competition.

Although the Ascend P7 is certainly skinny and not too expensive, its unimpressive power and sometimes awkward interface makes it an acceptable -- albeit uninspiring choice. If you can find the P7 on a subsidised contract at a good price then it's...

Huawei Ascend P7 Review

The Ascend P7 is one of the thinnest and lightest Android smartphones with a 5” display, which doesn't preclude it from having a premium steel-and-glass design and a rather appealing specs sheet...

Thin and light premium design ; 8 MP wide-angle front camera ; Good call quality ; Strong and full loudspeaker

Midrange processor ; Sluggish browser

The Ascend P7 is a great-looking handset with a premium feel and a nice specs sheet. Its eye-catching chassis design also makes it one of the thinnest and lightest Android 5-inchers out there, and an ambassador of Huawei's engineering prowess. The...

Huawei's new hero phone isn't going to worry the flagships

Incredibly slim and light ; Fantastic 8MP front camera ; Bright 1080p screen

Glitchy notifications display ; Poor-man's iOS 7 clone ; Disappointing battery life

The Huawei Ascend P7 is a solid phone across the board, but doesn't excel beyond the competition in any particular area.

Huawei just took the gloves off. The Ascend P7 is the most serious smartphone that the Chinese company has ever made, designed to offer decent performance wrapped around a 5-inch HD screen and admirable design. Throw in speedy 4G connectivity at a...

Thin and light design, ample performance, price point should be competitive, decent cameras front and rear, call blacklist options, quality screen

Battery life and continual consumption warnings, flat design not most comfortable in hand, some camera gimmickry, will struggle to stand out in premier pack

Can Huawei tempt you away from the usual smartphone suspects with the slim and pretty P7?

Sharp and bright 5in screen Super slim and fairly sexy Decent camera

Weak processor for the price Quirky software doesn't hit the mark Some performance issues

The Huawei Ascend P7 looks and feels sharp, but a few issues and quirks mean it’s not up there with the best Android phones of 2014

Huawei Ascend P7

The slimmest 5-inch Android in the West (or East)

Slim and fairly good-looking ; Good camera

Quirky software needs tweaks ; Performance issues ; Screen not up there with the best ; Poor battery life

This isn’t the sort of thing you really notice in use, but it is an example of how the Ascend P7 lags behind phones like the Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2.

Huawei Ascend P7 video review: Sleek smartphone takes on Galaxy S5 and other flagships

Still set on cracking the smartphone market, Huawei has introduced its new flagship Ascend P7. See also: Huawei Ascend P7 review: Firm's best smartphone is sleek and affordable but let down by software.

Huawei Ascend P7 review

For starters, the price of the Ascend P7 is very reasonable for a flagship smartphone. Huawei has undercut rivals with a recommended retail price of €449, we expect it to sell for £399 SIM-free in the UK but we'll let you know once we have a figure in...

Huawei has produced a stunning smartphone in the Ascend P7 and this is couple with good value for money with that non-flagship price tag. There's some decent hardware on offer here, particularly the camera but the P7 is let down by software performance...

A decent phone with a good camera that's spoiled by poor battery life and middling performance

The Huawei Ascend P7 is a decent mid-range smartphone that does its best to stand out from the crowd with a wide range of apps and various photography modes. However, if you're not interested in taking selfies then there very little that the P7 does...
