Huawei IDEOS (U8150) Android smartphone

Low-end Android smartphones are becoming more popular and Chinese manufacturer Huawei is one of the first to release a budget-priced handset that runs...

Price and value for money ; Capacitive touchscreen ; Good build quality

Small and low-res display ; No multitouch ; Sluggish performance

Huawei's IDEOS smartphone has a small, low-res display and lacks multitouch, but it still represents excellent value. It runs the latest version of Android and it is reasonably well built; it's an absolute bargain at this price.

Huawei Ideos review

Huawei is probably a brand you don't know much about; they've been behind a huge number of dongles and data cards in the UK, often branded by the networks, and more recently Mi-Fi devices. They have also supplied some handsets, for example the T-Mobile...

Well built for a cheap phone, unfettered Android 2.2

Low res screen, low power processor, poor camera and video

A great little phone, only let down by limited hardware specs - something you'll have to accept on an entry-level phone

Huawei Ideos review

The Huawei Ideos has the body of a cheap phone, but the heart and soul of a brilliant Android smart phone, with plenty of features and a usable, responsive screen.

Latest Android 2.2 Froyo ; Responsive capacitive touchscreen ; 802.11n Wi-Fi ; HSPA ; Access to the Android app store

Low-resolution screen ; Weak camera ; Not very attractive

The Huawei Ideos may skimp on a low-res screen and camera, but it's made exactly the right moves in bringing Android to the masses. 802.11n Wi-Fi and HSPA combine with the latest version of the Android OS to give the Ideos the leg-up on most other...

Huawei Ideos

With a rich feature set and a great user experience, the Ideos raises the bar for smartphones — not just budget models, but also those that cost five times as much.

Unbelievably cheap ; Good user experience ; Great for Web browsing

Poor 3-megapixel camera ; Not powerful enough for popular games

The Ideos is a rare beast; a budget phone that comes packed with the same features you'd expect in a phone for at least twice as much money. This money is saved in the quality of the screen and the power of the hardware, but for people who just want to...

Huawei Ideos U8150

Huawei is a big Chinese Company with massive market share in their homeland. In Australia, they are about to take on some of the biggest phone brands in the world, initially with a cheap Google Android phone that competes head on with the HTC Legend.

One of the cheapest new phones on the market; Small; Sleek design

Cheap, plastic finish; Suffers severe lag; Slow loading times
