Huawei IDEOS X1 Android phone

Little known Chinese company Huawei has certainly made a splash at the low-end of the Australian mobile phone market, and its latest low-cost smartpho...

Very low price ; Android features and flexibility ; Compact size

Cramped touchscreen ; Sluggish performance

The Huawei IDEOS X1 is a pretty impressive smartphone considering its low price. The capacitive touchscreen is reasonably responsive, and although its performance, screen size and the plastic build quality aren’t anything to crow about, the IDEOS X1...

The $99 Android smartphone: Huawei IDEOS X1

The X1 has several shortcomings, with speed and screen quality at the top of that list. At $99, though, it's hard to go past the X1 as a value-packed prepaid device.

Cheap as chips, Pretty easy to grip

The rear plastic feels greasy, No flash on the rear camera, Low quality screen

T-Mobile Rapport

T-Mobile's Rapport - essentially the network's own version of the Vodafone Smart and Orange Stockholm - promises to deliver Android on the cheap. However, can Huawei compete against the likes of HTC and ZTE? Read our review to find out.

Much like the Orange-branded Huawei U8180, the T-Mobile Rapport lacks the Vodafone Smart's appealing aesthetics - which includes funky customisable back-covers. Still, the handset's by no means a bad-looking handset, although we're not so keen on its...

Huawei Ideos X1

Huawei has rebadged its flagship budget Android phone and slashed the price in half. Question is, is the X1 an outdated smartphone relic or a must-have bargain for first-time Android users?

One of the cheapest Android phones on the market; Small, lightweight; improved design on last model; Single home button

Slow, 528 MHz processor; lags on more graphics intensive apps

T-Mobile Rapport

Nice design, slim, & lightweight. Came very quickly

Basically the printed instructions are very poor and essential functions are poorly explained.. The person on the help-line, whilst trying to help, was incomprehensible

T-Mobile Rapport

Nice and modern. Love the split screens which hold different widgets. Text messages are in conversation view so you don't have to flick to see what the other person said when replying. Lock screen can be a code or visible pattern

Battery life isn't great, but it depends on the apps on also, although I hardly use any apps. Takes a while to adjust to the phone. Typing on the qwerty can be tricky sometimes, but autocorrect fixes the typos. Text messages and calls don't keep time...
