Huawei Ideos X5 (unlocked) review: Huawei Ideos X5 (unlocked)

Huawei Ideos X5 (unlocked)

The Huawei Ideos X5 has a clear, sharp display, a decent camera, HD 720p video capture, and a touch of premium styling.

There's no camera shutter button, the microSD card is behind the back cover, and call quality was variable.

The Huawei Ideos X5 has all the ingredients of a satisfying Android phone, but it faces stiff competition from the top and middle of the pack.

Comparing the Huawei Ideos X5 to my old Nexus One, I would have to say that the former can give the latter a good run for its money. I did not expect Huawei to come up with such a robust and solidly built smartphone.

Part of the press release:

CricKet wireless offers the Huawei Ascend as a smartphone. Not as good as the X5 / X6. Hopefully CricKet will be offering these soon – word is they're gonna drop several smartphones in early 2011.

Value for money ; Reasonably stylish design ; Decent specifications

Screen hard to see in sunlight ; Touch-sensitive buttons not backlit ; No word on Gingerbread update

If you want to buy a fully fledged Android smartphone without breaking the bank, the Huawei IDEOS X5 should be seriously considered. It offers all the features and functions of a top end Android smartphone for an excellent price.
