i-mate JAMA 201

Featuring a slim and light frame but still managing to boast a full QWERTY keyboard, the i-mate JAMA 201's design will definitely turn some heads. The...

Lightweight frame, rubberised finish, comfortable and tactile keypad

No 3G connectivity, tri-band and not quad-band GSM, Bluetooth 1.2, USB 1.2, mediocre camera, slow processor

The JAMA 201 boasts an excellent design and the keyboard and controls make it a pleasure to use, but the lack of features will turn many away.

This slim, light smartphone will turn heads, but will it find its way into jacket pockets?

But despite the fact that my wife doesn't think it's bad, the i-Mate Jama 201 isn't all things to all men and women. It's well designed, slim, light and in general a pleasant device to use. The keyboard is good, making typing out emails and SMS...

The JAMA 201 smartphone looks the part of a smartphone, but it's not good enough to be the real deal.

Looks like a smartphone

It's anything but smart, though ; Slow performance ; Cheap feeling buttons ; Horrible USB cover ; No Wi-Fi ; No 3G ; Tiny space bar ; USB 1.1 only

The JAMA 201 does represent a challenge to the smartphone market in that it brings an unlocked Windows Mobile 6 platform to market for only $489. It's just that in doing so, it makes so many compromises, and strips so much out of what we'd want from a...

FIRST LOOK: i-mate Jama 201, cheapie smartphone has a few tricks

Wants Windows Mobile without all the bells and whistles? This cheapie is under $500

It's certainly an improvement on the i-mate Ultimate 8502 which has every feature under the sun, including fast 3G download speeds for email and Web, but lacks a reasonably sized keyboard

The i-mate JAMA 201 is extremely poor on the connectivity front, has a rubbish camera and average video playback performance. As an email solution it's not bad, due to the Qwerty keyboard, above average battery life and largish screen, but in terms of...
