The bigger, stronger sibling in i-mate's pair of new phones, the unlocked $725 Ultimate 8150 is the most powerful Windows Mobile phone you can buy today. It isn't perfect by a long shot-it's unsightly and expensive, and i-mate still needs to work out...

Lightning-fast and powerful.

Extremely expensive. Battery bug has delayed release.

This Windows Mobile phone won't win any beauty contests, but it does deserve performance awards thanks to its beefy processor and graphics chipset.

i-mate Ultimate 8150 Review

After splitting from HTC Taiwanese-based company, i-mate tried to establish its own line of PDAs different from those that are usually available on the market. Design was one of the characteristics that i-mate worked hard on so that its devices can...

There are some good pieces that come within the Ultimate 8150 body. The fast processor and the cool VGA display make as the positive highlights of the device. HSDPA technology, the NVIDIA graphics chip and VGA output for monitor/projector are also...

Unfortunately, the list is bigger than that of the good things. The most obvious is the 1530 mAH battery life, which is way too short. Also, the screen is a little bit small for a VGA display, the 3G network sucks a lot out of the battery (choose GSM...

This Windows Mobile smartphone has plenty of features, including a display output, but does it do enough to win over Jon?

i-mate Ultimate 8150

Offering the same zippy performance as the Ultimate 6150, the 8150 gets its nose in front with a handy alpha-numeric keypad.

Excellent VGA display ; Fast 520MHz processor ; XGA TV-Out ; Excellent connectivity options ; Numeric keypad

Dismal battery life ; Large, heavy handset

Considering the two devices have matching retail prices, our pick is the 8150. It's a shame that the keypad isn't as easy to use as we'd like.
