Product Reviews: i-mate PDA2k

By Jason Saundalkar

The i-mate PDA2k includes a healthy 128MB of RAM as standard, which is more than the vast majority of PDAs. Should you wish to upgrade this storage further to store more tunes or video on your handheld, an SD card memory slot is ready and willing.

Very sturdy build quality, fully featured, small QWERTY keyboard relatively usable

Far from cheap

Mobile professionals who are looking for a PDA that can double as a second phone won't go far wrong with this impressive release

Sony Ericsson P910

On the software side, the phone has been upgraded in various ways. Push e-mail allows messages to get sent automatically to your phone, meaning there's no need to download them from a mail server. E-mail can also be synchronised with Outlook and Lotus ...

High resolution LCD, good build quality, memory upgrade ready

Somewhat pricey, keyboard is quite redundant

The P910i is as good a smartphone as you'll currently find. Its qwerty keyboard should be resigned to history or seriously improved, but that aside this is an impressive device.

Everex E500

Like the Anextek, the E500 uses Pocket PC (Phone Edition), rather than the more limited Windows Mobile for Smartphone. This adds relevant phone dialer, SMS and MMS utilities. This PDA isn't too comfortable as a phone though, which makes it ...

Although its feature list looks reasonable, this PDA is beaten by other devices in terms of build quality and offers little value for money.

HTC Voyager / Qtek 8060 / Qtek 8080 / i-Mate SmartPhone2 / Dopod 535 / O2 Xphone / Orange SPV E200

Setting up the Smartphone2 the first time around might take a while but it does boast a massive number of features. It even allows you to associate separate audio, picture and animation files for your contacts.

Strong battery life, good connectivity.

Takes a little getting used to.

The Smartphone2 is a mobile user's dream come true. It offers a vast array of features and functions in an easy to use and well-built package. The only downside to the Smartphone2 is you'll never get away with saying you never got someone's phone call ...

Apacer Handy Steno HT202

The Apacer drove the TwinMos model close for best value here but we felt the TwinMos shaded it with a slightly lower price and slightly better performance. The TwinMos also has a smaller and sleeker design.

Siemens SX1

Overall, we found the SX1 a little expensive given its limited appeal to professional users. If it is to find widespread success among consumers it should come down in price.

A good fun phone but lacking in stylus input and top notch screen quality.

Handspring Treo 600

At $735, it is the most expensive device in the group test and the lack of Bluetooth connectivity is disappointing, as is the lack of software such as Picsel Reader. However, the inclusion of a phone is definitely a major attraction for PDA buyers. ...
