Kyocera Hydro Edge (Boost Mobile)

The Kyocera Hydro Edge is a decent Android smartphone for Boost Mobile customers, but aside from its rugged and waterproof design, it's merely average.

Waterproof. Affordable. Compact design

Slow data speeds. Scant internal storage. Awkward rearranged system buttons

Kyocera has been making a comeback bid, largely with its lineup of ruggedized models. The Hydro Edge ($109.99 direct) on Boost Mobile doesn't have the brick-like heft of some of its other damage-resistant phones. Only the sliding lock on the battery...

Kyocera Hydro Edge ( Sprint)

Unless you find you and your phone often drenched in water, consider skipping over the Kyocera Hydro Edge.

The Kyocera Hydro Edge is a waterproof handset that's reasonably priced and accepts microSD cards of up to 32GB.

The handset has inconsistent 3G data speeds, mediocre call quality, and lacks a front-facing camera.

Consider the Kyocera Hydro Edge if you're looking for a low-price splash proof phone, but skip it if its water resistance isn't a main priority for you.

Kyocera Hydro Edge review

Kyocera is making a name for itself in the mobile world by making smartphones that can stand up to common punishments. The ultra-rugged Torque looked danger, water, dust, and falls in the face and laughed and could do so because of the bulky outside....

Slim, compact design ; Water and dust resistant ; Useful added apps and features ; Good call quality ; Inexpensive

Mediocre display ; Poor camera ; No front camera ; Only 1GB of available internal storage ; Slow 3G network

The Hydro Edge is water resistant and only costs $150 on Boost and $20 on Sprint. It’s a decent phone for those on a tight budget, but comes with some serious trade-offs.

Kyocera Hydro Edge

The water-resistant and dustproof Kyocera Hydro Edge combines semirugged features with a pure Android experience for just $19.99, but its battery life is lacking.

Resistant to water and dust; Very affordable; Smart Sonic technology ; Useful preloaded apps

Short battery life; No front camera; Below-average performance

The water-resistant and dustproof Kyocera Hydro Edge offers semirugged capabilities for just $19.99 -- a value that is hard to match when it comes to waterproof devices. We also like the Smart Sonic audio technology. However, the Edge lacks a...

Kyocera Hydro Edge Review

Way back earlier in the year during CES 2013, we had our first glimpse of the Kyocera Hydro Edge encased in ice – showing off its semi-rugged aspect. Fast forward to the present, the handset in question is now readily available for purchase through...

Waterproof ; Smart Sonic Receiver tissue conduction technology ; Inexpensive cost

Outdated specs ; Low quality display ; Takes grainy photos ; Sluggish performance

Sure, it might be cool that the Kyocera Hydro Edge is dustproof and water resistant, but there are surely many compromises that make it a tough sell for those individuals that simply want to get stuff done in the end. From its sluggish performance to...

Kyocera Hydro Edge review

Announced back in July, the Kyocera Hydro Edge is a low-end handset for Boost Mobile. It continues the recent trend towards water resistant smartphones, which the Japanese manufacturer has been pushing lately. The Hydro Edge won't wow anyone looking...

Kyocera has focused on low and middle tier phones for years now. The Hydro Edge is a very capable device for someone looking for a cheap phone that will handle use fairly well. It will not blow anyone away with its screen, camera or smoothness, but...

Kyocera Hydro Edge

Kyocera has targeted lovers of outdoor adventures with the Hydro Edge — the phone’s housing is durable and waterproof. Aside from this, the Hydro Edge comes off as a lackluster phone. Its low-resolution screen, below-average battery life,...

Kyocera Hydro Edge (Boost Mobile)

The Kyocera Hydro Edge is a decent Android smartphone for Boost Mobile customers, but aside from its rugged and waterproof design, it's merely average.

The Hydro Edge is a better deal than most of Boost’s other Android phones in the $100 price range, some of which still ship with the thoroughly obsolete Android 2.3 “Gingerbread” release. Its waterproofing is also a major benefit, especially for the...
