LG G7 ThinQ review: A worthy S9 rival with a notch

LG has made notable improvements with the G7 ThinQ, and it might very well be the company's best phone yet. Not only does it has great looks and a gorgeous display, it also boasts unique features like a super-bright screen for outdoor use, a crazy-loud...

Beautiful display with 1000-nit brightness boost ; Dedicated Google Assistant button ; 3.5-mm headset jack for old-school audiophiles ; Super-loud speaker ; Decent photo quality

AI camera is hit or miss ; Notch is not for everyone ; Mediocre battery life

LG G7 ThinQ review

The LG G7 ThinQ checks off all the boxes on the list, but it isn't exciting.

Brilliant-sounding speakers ; Speedy software ; Solid battery life ; Versatile camera ; Useful Super Bright Display

Dull design ; AI Cam needs work ; Camera suffers in low light

The LG G7 ThinQ is a very good phone, but it will fly under the radar because it doesn’t have any standout feature. Our biggest problems are with the G7’s mediocre low-light cameras, which can’t hold a candle to the competition, and its dull design.

LG G7 ThinQ review: Big brains, bigger yawns

With a Snapdragon 845 processor, Boombox speaker, and an AI camera, the LG G7 ThinQ isn't a bad phone by any stretch. But it's not a particularly memorable phone either.

Good looking screen with a disappearing notch. ; Fantastic sound through the speaker or headphones.

Battery is just OK and performance suffers under the weight of its OS. ; Camera is a step backward, even with its AI-powered eye. ; Joins a lineup of too many similar phones from LG.

The G7 is a prime example of an in-between phone, but it’s dificult to say what LG is waiting for. It’s a clear improvement over the G6 and the V30, but the G7 isn’t strong enough to stand or excite on its own. And there are just too many LG phones to...

LG G7 ThinQ review: a big price for small improvements

LG's new G7 ThinQ has a truly awful name, but it's got a good design, terrific-sounding headphone jack, and a camera that opens many creative possibilities. Unfortunately, it's also way too expensive.

Good, very bright IPS LCD display ; Stellar headphone audio ; Super-wide camera offers creative flexibility ; Better touch haptics than other Android smartphones

Boom Box speaker is incredibly loud, but mono and easy to cover ; LG is putting no effort into software ; Mediocre battery life ; Too expensive on some carriers

LG G7 ThinQ

The G7 ThinQ hits the latest phone trends and includes signature LG features like a wide-angle camera and audiophile-quality sound for a solid alternative to flagships from Apple and Samsung.

Audiophile-friendly sound. Sharp, bright display. Solid low-light camera mode and AI image tweaking. Latest processor and modem.

AI camera processing can be slow. No real blockbuster new features.

The next few years are going to be big ones for smartphones. 5G will launch in 2019, enabling new applications and new form factors. We might see foldable phones, or AR- and VR-focused devices. But for now, we have phones like the Samsung Galaxy S9 and...

LG G7 ThinQ Review: sounds better than it looks

Although it is not exactly in dire straits like, say, HTC, LG has had a rough few quarters. For 2018, it supposedly went back to the drawing board and would be focusing on a few but key premium models. The latter resulted in at least four V series...

Impressive and loud Boombox Speaker ; Super Bright Display mode ; Good battery life

Mediocre low-light autofocus ; Non-configurable AI Key

LG G7 ThinQ Review

The LG G7 ThinQ is the latest flagship smartphone of the Korean company. It has the latest specs, a superbright display, a superloud speaker, and it is all sprinkled with a dash of AI...

Premium design with some lovely color options ; Great outdoor display visibility ; Wide-angle camera is great having ; Retains the headphone jack ; Boombox speaker is a nice extra ; Dedicated Google Assistant button is convenient

Unconvincing AI camera implementation ; Battery life could have been better ; Design lacks originality

T-Mobile LG G7 ThinQ review: Average battery life and high price overshadow excellent audio performance

Earlier this month I attended the LG G7 ThinQ launch event in NYC and then posted some first thoughts after spending five days with the new LG flagship smartphone .

Excellent connected audio and speaker performance ; Lightweight with attractive design ; High quality dual cameras with wide-angle support ; Drop protection rating and high level water resistance

Average battery life ; Same lousy LG auto-brightness ; Priced too high

LG G7 ThinQ Review: The Wow Is Missing

LG must be frustrated. Past attempts at innovation, the modular G5 and the G6, which pushed smartphone cameras and displays forward, haven't toppled Samsung. Meanwhile, Huawei's camera technology and OnePlus's vivid displays and affordable price are...

AI camera with low-light mode ; Boombox speaker and surround sound ; Tight Google Assistant integration ; Almost bezel-free display

Underwhelming battery life ; Unoriginal design ; Not available at AT&T

The G7 ThinQ packs a slew of premium features, including an AI camera and Boombox speaker, in a perfectly fine package. But it still feels like an imitator, not an innovator.
