LG KG800 Chocolate review: Dressed to impress

A new LG phone has hit the streets. The possible suspect is described as black, slim, sexy and most of all fashionable. Well then, we might just have some information on that suspect, Mr. Officer. The LG Chocolate phone is a gorgeous mobile phone...

Fashionable designHigh-quality finish1.3 megapixel camera with LED flash128 MB shared internal memoryUSB 1.2 mass storage supportTouchpad navigationReally fast menu system response

No memory card slotNo FM radioNo airplane modeSlow and inconvenient camera interfaceNo MP3 playlist and ID3 tag support

Anyways, we really liked this phone, and as a matter of fact, all the people around us liked it even better, so there's a trick or two that this party slider hides in its sleeves. Talking about sleeves, let's roll up ours and get down to work in order...

LG Electronics Chocolate (LG 8550)

The VX8550--available from Verizon for $250 with a two-year contract--eschews a button-oriented navigational ring for a navigational wheel. I found the wheel a mixed blessing: It simplified navigation in some menus, but made it more onerous in others....

Nice wheel-based navigation ; Dedicated speakerphone button

Interface can be kludgy

This mild revision to the popular LG Chocolate phone has plenty of multimedia options.

LG Chocolate VX8550

Verizon's music phone gets better by adding a scroll wheel.

Thinner and prettier than original Chocolate, with better navigation wheel and touch buttons.

USB cable sold separately. Video playback is jerky.

LG Chocolate VX8550 review

One of the most hyped cell phones last year was probably the LG Chocolate (also known as the LG VX8500). Even if it didn't have such a succulent name, the slim and sexy slider took the mobile world by storm, and its unique touch-sensitive controls...

The LG VX8550 Chocolate has a much improved design over the original Chocolate, with a mechanical scroll wheel that has a trace motion light, a touch pad that vibrates, and an overall sleeker look. It has an impressive multimedia feature set that...

Even though we liked the vibrating feedback of the LG VX8550 Chocolate's touchpad, we still missed the feeling of tactile keys. You also have to get the Music Set, which costs more, if you want the microSD card and USB cable along with the phone.

The LG VX8550 Chocolate is definitely a big improvement over the original Chocolate, with a beautiful yet functional design plus a host of impressive features to boot.

LG Chocolate review

intro

The LG Chocolate has a sharp design; satisfying overall performance; and a multimedia-rich feature set that includes Bluetooth, a digital music player, and a megapixel camera with admirable photo quality.

The LG Chocolate's unique touch pad and controls entail a steep learning curve, and the phone suffers from poor streaming video quality and low talk-time battery life. The lack of a speakerphone is disappointing.

Though the LG Chocolate is beautifully designed and offers a respectable mix of features and performance, it doesn't quite live up to the hype.

KG800 Chocolate Cell Phone

LG's new phone, the Chocolate, will attract your attention for its high-concept name as much as for its rich looks. While I admired the slick design and amazing sound quality, I was frustrated by the navigational controls.

The difficult-to-use navigational controls temper my enthusiasm for the Chocolate and its far-out design. But its sound quality was stellar, and for that alone I can heartily recommend the phone

Chocolate By LG/LG VX8500

Verizon's best music phone, LG VX8500 (a.k.a., the "Chocolate") looks like nothing else and that's a good thing, mostly.

Beautiful. Stereo Bluetooth. MP3 support.

No speakerphone. Very sharp learning curve with buttons.

LG Chocolate Touch

The latest installment in Verizon's line of LG Chocolate music phones is by far our favorite yet. Although a touchscreen only interface isn't particularly new this one works so well you won't miss the tactile numeric keypad found in previous models....
