Microsoft Lumia 640 review: It's the practical Windows Phone most people can afford

You get Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2, but the phone cuts some classic Lumia features to keep its price down.

Aside from the caveats I’ve listed above—especially the limited storage—I see nothing truly wrong with the Lumia 640. I just think that you’ll be happier with the Lumia 830.

Both the screen and camera are among the best you'll find at this price, you can swap out the back panels for fresh colours, and the Windows Phone software is easy to use.

The front camera has a very poor resolution, the battery life is short, and the under-stocked app store won't please anyone wanting the latest apps and games.

The great screen and camera make the Lumia 640 a brilliant phone for anyone on a budget who wants an alternative to Android -- so long as you aren't too bothered about apps.

Microsoft Lumia 640 review

The budget end of the phone market is dominated by a slew of Android phones, most of which have near-identical black or grey designs and the same outdated software that slogs through even the basics.

Both the screen and camera are among the best you'll find at this price, you can swap out the back panels for fresh colours, and the Windows Phone software is easy to use.
